Wow!
And to think Mr. Bill99GXE is our moderator?! Bill if I didn't know any better, I would think you assumed I just shot and killed your mom and your first born with my message about how often I change my DINO oil...not the Mobil One syn. you said I used. I have never used synthetic and never will....I feel its a waste if you don't put lots of mile on your car. For gods sake CHILL OUT! I don't give a $hit if you EVER change your oil..do you understand that? I change it at 3k because its cheap and I don't mind doing it....i.e its kind of entertaining to me in a weird way! If you don't agree, fine....but don't sit there and ridicule me because you think your opinion is backed by scientific proof from some oil analysis. I don't bash you for that...I respect it, just respectfully DISAGREE with the frequency in which you change the oil!
Jeff: Thanks for the input on the tires. I will take that into consideration the next time they fall below 1/3 of the life gone! Again...another smart A$$ remark from someone who can't respect others (my) opinion.
Moral? Nowhere in my message did I say you guys are F'ing idiots! I said I just don't agree and choose to do it my way. You have scientific proof and have paid for it and that's fabulous! However, I still don't mind spending $10 every 3 months on my car. Jeff...spending $600 on new tires when they fall below 1/3 gone would motivate me to follow your theory if it applied to tires...but thanks for your critical tone and advise anyway. Since it's a mere $10, I could care less. What am I going to do, wear out the oil pan drain plug or something?
You guys have fun changing your oil every 10k. I honestly hope it works for you all. Hey at least you won't get as dirty as often as I do. At the end of your cars life you can stand proud and tell me you saved $100 over the life of your car. You took a gamble and it paid off...congrats to you all! Yipppie!

Re: Wow!
Hmm hey anytime. I tried to answer everyone's questions and you come in here and just say "I do this, I do that" just becuase that's what I do. Sorry I took that as a personal attack on the facts I tried to present. You can take anyway you want to but sometimes the truth hurts.
You really want to know why Bill and I have resorted to these childish comments to the 3000 mile oil change? Well it's becuase dingbats like yourself only seem to read this type of childish reply. I note that I've replied to everyone's questions while you only chose to reply to the childish ones and you only seemed to reply to the childish parts of the post. It's really sad that resorting to the lowest common demominator is the only way to stir up any kind of reaction vs having a true conversation.
Exactly where did you get that 3000 mile figure anyway? Why not 2000 or 4000? It couldn't be the result of the multimillion marketing campaign by oil companies isn't it?

Before purchasing a Maxima and joining this forum, about 3 months ago, I used to change my oil every 3K miles. After reading some of your posts and doing some research of my own I decided to use AMSOIL (Series 2000 0W-30) and change it once a year, as recommended. They warranty their product, I save time, money, and the environment, while protecting my car better...sounds like a good idea to me? I now spend this "extra" time waxing the car instead of changing the oil.
Thank you for your posts, they made me re-think my belief in oil change intervals.

I think you have some issues with yourself. I don't know what you are talking about at all. You make so little sense when you say that I try to "reply to everyone's questions while I only chose to reply to the childish ones and I only seemed to reply to the childish parts of the post. It's really sad that resorting to the lowest common demominator is the only way to stir up any kind of reaction vs having a true conversation." True conversation? So your reply was considered a true conversation? Your reply and semi-attack with your tag-team choert Bill against those who disagree was a conversation? Bull$hit!
Simply put...WTF? I am at work and monitoring this on the side. If you think I have the time, or sincere interest, to monitor this post close enough to see what others have said in GREAT detail, YOU ARE NUTS! I see some of the attacks you and Bill have had on others OPINIONS based on your $50 investment to some oil analysis company. I'll say it again for you Jeff! I am happy you have the proof, and I don't doubt its accurate. I simply just don't agree with it. Can you handle that Jeff? Can ya Pal? I don't think that you can. You can't handle it because you believe that every decision should be based off of scientific proof and nothing else; that a decision has no merit unless there is proof! Will you fly in a plane Jeff? Wait...there isn't proof you won't die...no promise....oh my god, Jeff what will you do? Ahh...drive the VQ, why not you can go 10k b/t oil changes!
That being said, I think you are the 'dingbat.' If I want to change it every 500 miles don't worry about it and don't be an A$$hole to me about it? Do you understand that? Let me try again....if Joe Blow wants to change his oil every 700 miles and you have proof its a waste, explain nicely that its a waste. If they go on to say they PREFER to do it more often, then let it go...your point was heard and not absorbed by many, myself included! Not because I am an indiot, or a 'dingbat' but because I don't want to wait that long. Now...do you understand, Jeff?
One more time...as loud as I can! I DON'T DOUBT YOUR OIL ANALYSIS, I JUST DON'T FEEL LIKE USING IT AS THE ONLY DECISION TOOL IN MY CHOICE OF WHEN TO CHANGE MY OIL! Yes...i am yelling. I am sorry YOU can't accept that and continue to lecture me on how much cash I am wasting...thanks daddy Jeff!
Now, I have said all I need to say about the topic. You will try to point out that I am looking at others non-scientific proof to support my point! Thats a waste of my time Jeff! I based my responses on my belief, not some oil analysis which honestly does have proof that you can go longer. I just simply feel more confortable doing it sooner as I have said 1milllion times!
Where did I get 3k? From my grandfather who is now dead. He was a GM mechanic for 40 years. Every 3k was his rule. Sure, times have changed, but why mess with something so cheap!

Made an error there, as I was implying Mobile 1's dino oil rather than synthetic. 3k on dino is sill a waste of money.
I have never used synthetic and never will....I feel its a waste if you don't put lots of mile on your car.
Ok, cool.

Mine will be 25k.
I honestly hope it works for you all.
It looks promising. Lab-proven 12k thus far.
At the end of your cars life you can stand proud and tell me you saved $100 over the life of your car.
Not about saving money. But I can claim that I did 13% of the oil changes that you performed, and I used approximately 2 quarts of oil for every 4 gallons of oil you used during the car's lifetime......
You took a gamble and it paid off...congrats to you all!

*sniff* *sniff* I think, I, I, I think I lost a friend. awwwww.
Very interesting. So your at work and monitor the site. Fine so in order to best use your time, you write this long gibberish attack vs having a decent conversation. Well that's twice now Shufly. You know I've never been too big to admit when I'm wrong but if my memory is correct, it's you that causes most of the trouble.
Oh and fly a plane? Sure it's been statisticly proven that flying in planes is safer than driving to work everyday. Damn, can't you even flame correct?
Again commenting on only the childish posts. Need I say more? Your batting 1000 in that department.
When did I say your wasting money or that you should not change your oil anytime you want? I only stated that it's not necessary. It's when people say you NEED to change the oil, or the oil is dirty becuase it's dark, do I then have a problem. Why? Because it's unfounded. That's all I'm trying to say. If you read the previous posts, you would't have posted 1/2 of the immature crap you just did.
And to put the icing on the cake, I save money, have better protection and save the enviroment all at the same time.
But hey, being a logical person has never been one of your strong points right? : )
And if haven't caught the phrase, I NEVER TOLD ANYONE NOT TO CHANGE THEIR OIL OR WHAT OIL TO USE.
I guess you have selective reasoning because even the Consumer Reports said 3000 miles was too soon. Your precious article just let you down *sniff*
""""Oil changes: How often?
The long-time mantra of auto mechanics has been to change your oil every 3000 miles. Most automakers recommend an oil change every 7,500 miles (and a specific time interval) for "normal" driving, and every 3,000 miles for "severe" driving - frequent trips of less than four or five miles, stop-and-go traffic, extended idling, towing a trailer, or dusty or extremely cold conditions. Many motorists' driving falls into one or more of those "severe" categories.
In our survey, almost two-thirds of our readers said they had their oil changed every 3,000 miles or less. They may be following the thinking expressed by one of our staffers: "I have my oil changed every 3,000 miles because that's what my father did, and all his cars lasted for many years."
To determine whether frequent oil changes really help, we changed the oil in three cabs every 3,000 miles, using Pennzoil 10W-30. After 60,000 miles, we compared those engines with the engines from our base tests of the same oil, changed every 6,000 miles. We saw no meaningful differences. When Mobil 1 synthetic oil came out, Mobil presented it as an oil that, while expensive, could go 25,000 miles between changes. That claim is no longer being made. But Mobil 1 is still on the market, selling at a premium (along with pricey synthetic competitors from several other companies). And synthetic oil's residual reputation as a long-lasting product may still prompt some people to stretch their oil changes longer than the automaker recommends.
Determining whether synthetic oils last longer than conventional ones would require a separate test protect. To try to get some indication, we put Mobil 1 synthetic into three cabs and changed their oil every 12,000 miles.
We intended to compare the results of these tests with those from the three taxicabs whose Mobil 1 was changed at our normal interval, every 6,000 miles. Unfortunately, two of the three engines using the 12,000-mile interval developed problems. (We couldn't attribute those problems to the oil.) The third engine fared no worse than the three whose oil had been changed at 6,000-mile intervals.
The bottom line. Modern motor oils needn't be changed as often as oils did years ago. More frequent oil changes won't hurt your car, but you could be spending money unnecessarily and adding to the nation's energy and oil-disposal problems.""""

Re: Thanks!
Actually he is flaming you. You just don't understand his scarcasm
Take a look at my replies to Daniel B Martin whom I respect and the replies to you(which I don't really respect at all)
In reality, I'm not really rude to anyone but maybe relatively more "rude" to you. Why is that? Maybe because he can handle a conversation when someone doesn't agree with him and you can't. I mean why go overboard like you just have done in the last 2 replies if you really didn't give a ****?

Re: Hmmmm.....
I don't know why you guys are dissin each other about a damn oil change interval. Shumax, granted you are disgusted with party at hand but what does it matter? You bought your car, you put gas in it and you drive it. 3000mi intervals is guaranteed to save your engine. Tons of people know this. I do mine every 5000mi. Just remember this, everyone is not going to agree and don't get that upset because somebody is trying to prove you wrong. To hell with people who don't agree. I am sure you are a grown man so nobody can make you do something because they think something should be done there way.
The funny thing is that people on this site always want to see proof for points made. I gave proof and still it's not enough. Some people are never happy or satisfied. After I change my oil, I don't give a damn about if it was still good.
Shumax, don't give a damn about what people say if you don't agree with it. Agree with the points that you understand and like. My whole purpose of posting this information is so people could read it and either use it or throw it away. It's written by a well known and believable source and there is nothing to argue over.
I agree with the Consumer Reports article. No oil made a significant difference in wear in your engine for whatever the change interval. Most wear happens when you start your engine anyway.

Sheesh
If anyone cant handle a little damage on their engines while driving...take the bus. For me, i know its part of driving a car and accept the fact that i have to pay my hard earned money to drive. So why is everyone arguing on when they should change oil on THEIR car. IF they want to do so every 50 miles or 50,000 miles let them do it. It is their money and its a part of the expense of driving. If their engine blows or stays fine it is their risk and let them do it. Last i heard, oil was recycled so what is this enviroment argument? whatever you do DO NOT POUR YOUR OIL DOWN THE STORM DRAIN. There is my envirmomental thing for the day.

Jeff:
You post:
When did I say your wasting money or that you should not change your oil anytime you want? I only stated that it's not necessary. It's when people say you NEED to change the oil, or the oil is dirty becuase it's dark, do I then have a problem. Why? Because it's unfounded. That's all I'm trying to say. If you read the previous posts, you would't have posted 1/2 of the immature crap you just did.
That's all you said in your entire post that wasn't childish in itself. I think you must be blind, Jeff. I said right after I made my post that I knew I was being rude to you! I meant to be...I don't have much respect for you at all.
Here's some of YOUR childish hypocrtical comments in return:
Very interesting. So your at work and monitor the site. Fine so in order to best use your time, you write this long gibberish attack vs having a decent conversation. Well that's twice now Shufly. You know I've never been too big to admit when I'm wrong but if my memory is correct, it's you that causes most of the trouble.
Another???
But hey, being a logical person has never been one of your strong points right? : )
Yet you take the time to say I post childish responses? Open your eyes! As far as work, I didn't know you were so concerned about my daily conduct. Jeff, I had just got off and was about to go home and got your email, if you want to call it that!! I decided I might take some time and try to step up to your stupidity. You still don't get it. I didn't make any attempt to defend the stupid Consumer Reports article; I think CR is a waste...never believed in them anyway! Take a moment and look back...I never once said a thing about Consumer Reports.
Bill's humor? Hey, if that's what it was fine, I am not an idiot. I choose to let it slide because his approach was much more mature than yours! Bill knows I don't care for his style on moderating this site, but we don't battle abou it. However, he's the boss when it comes to the list, and I respect that!
I think that my point is that you are acting in the way you accuse me of acting. You start of telling me that I am acting like an idiot b/c of the way I approach you. Then you turn around and do the same thing; whose the idiot, Jeffy?
My causing trouble? Hey, I am not here to cause trouble. When I see people tagging up on others about something that I don't agree with I am going to come in and help out. I am sorry you took it the wrong way. At this point, this is a personal attack, and if Bill were acting in a consistant manner he would lock the thread. Bill locks threads whenever personal attacks ignite. I think this one ignited back on page three; funny why hasn't it been locked, I wonder....hmmm.
If you have more to say to ME about oil, then do it. If not, do me a favor and SHUT THE HELL UP! Your ways aren't any better than mine when it comes to addressing eachother. The overwhelming differance is that I admit I am insulting you....you accuse me of something I openly admitted to doing; that's logical, isn't it Jeff? I don't agree with you, you aren't going to get me to agree and that's that. Never did I say you ways were wrong, I just disagree. Your A$$ won't accept it b/c I don't have proof..WHATEVER!
For the sake of the thread, I am no longer going to reply to your trash. If you have something to say about OIL I will be happy to respond in a logical, non-attacking manner. If you feel the need to exercise your immaturity futher, I will choose to ignore it as it's getting nowhere other than to prove you are a hypocrite.

Re: Jeff:
Gee thanks Shufly. I'm glad you decide to drop right after you flame me. BTW I never flamed you until you flamed me. Get it? I doubt but again truth hurts I guess. You have no interested in the oil conversation whatsoever do you? Why? Becuase you just said you just do whatever your grandparent did. I have listed all the articles and you have read none and therefore cannot entertain a legitimate conversation about the subject. So once again, if your really interested in oil, why all the personal attacks and not one legitimate opinion regarding oil changes, synthetics vs petro oil etc..?
Rude? Who has been more rude. Have I ever called you an ******* like you did 3-4 times?
You accused me of being rude. Which I was but only after you treated me in the same way. Thus a rude reply deserves the same back. A mature post receives a mature reply. Again explains why most flame you and not someone like daniel. Got it? And if you admit to being rude, why are you compaining that I'm rude to you back?
Exactly why should I discuss oil with you? Exactly what could you teach me about the subject? I don't know it all but then again I never said I did.
I don't give a crap what you do, but don't post here like I'm wasting your time about oil when all you do is flame someone else.
Oh and this is all I'm gonna say on this subject since I got my 2 cents in. I mean how weak is that statement?

If you are unable to convience someone with true facts, so be it... but to use personal attacks is frankly very low class.
Consider the thread locked becuse you can't present facts without attacking other's.
