help anyone:

does anyone know how to take off the back panel of the front seats? i was told that there are several clips on it and you have to use a screwdriver to loosen them off. i got my leather seat covers from leatherseats.com and i need to take these off.

any detailed description or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

did they fit ok? and how is the quality? did you get the magazine holders in the backs? i opted to not get the magazine holders, so they ordered the 97 seats for my 99; he said they should fit fine.

back panels

DFWmax, let us know about the back panels, I have a 99 as well. Are you doing the fronts 1st? I'm guessing the rear will be easier so I think I'll do that initially (after they arrive). What day did you order? Eric said it would take 8-10 days from order and I assumed he meant working days, of course.

yours is probably in the mail right now. i live in fort worth and leatherseats.com is in oklahoma, so i think the delivery time is going be be 1-2 days quicker than everyone else who lives farther away. i think i am in the one-day delivery zone....

i'll post results of the install when i get it done. im thinking about doing the back seat first too. but i am going to do a quick slip-on of the front seats to make sure that everything lines up. the back seat looks to be super-simple, the bottom piece pretty much pops out when you pull the two tabs under the thigh area.. and i think the back part is held on by four bolts (you can see two of them when you take off the bottom piece)....

SMO:

the sterling mist maxima has a very monochome look to it (i think). i have a sterling mist maxima with the charcoal gray cloth interior. i went with dark graphite leather inside. the door panels will look kinda bland (it will be virtually all black), but i wanted to preserve a "luxury" look to the interior. if you want sporty look, when you ge the leather, have the center inserts perforated, and go with a two tone. one of the suggestions that i thought would look nice would be to get a dark seat (dark graphite, or even black) and put in silver inserts door panels. that would be a nice contrast, and a sporty look.

i just installed the leather in the butt piece of the back seat. it wasnt too hard. my roommate helped me. you take the seat out, mark all the places that have the hogrings, and cut all the hog-rings. on the back butt piece, the hogrings go all around the bottom edge of the seat. there are also hog-rings in the actual butt area. the rectangle that cradles your butt has the metal wires that have been hogringed into the seat. you have to remove these and put them into the the new seat area. then you fit on the new leather cover, and hog-ring in the same places that you marked.

it looks really nice. my seats have the "puckering" (or "gathering") in the center panels, so it looks really soft and plush (in a luxurious way, not a GM way) to sit in. i cant wait to put the rest in. maybe tonight, i can get the rest of the back seat put in.....

oh yeah, i'll put in a good word for eric and leatherseats.com; he answered all my questions and sent me a lot of pictures to show me what the product looked like. havent seen customer service like that in a long time....

The back panels have 3 rows of fasteners, two on each row. The top row are metal hooks, the middle and bottom rows are nyon push-in fastners. Just pull gently from the bottom corners, then from the middle. When you get the nylon fasteners out, the panel drops down and out.

the leatherseats.com site has a few pictures of a maxima interior, both puckered and perforated. i think the perforated is more sporty looking and the puckered is more luxurious looking.

i got the non-perforated, puckered seats. i think they look good. i have only installed part of the back seat, and i'll try to install the rest of the back seat tonite. if i get a chance, i'll take a picture in the next day or so and i can mail it to you.

the door panel inserts are plain flat. they are not puckered, but i did have them perforated to give a different texture (i paid extra to get real leather door inserts). i dont know if they do it or not, but i never asked to have the door inserts puckered.... that would have looked nice....

I'm getting my leather seats tomorrow night. I don't feel like paying $250 for installation, so decided to do it with my friend this saturday.

Someone asked a question on door panels. I got silver leather panels, not vinyl. But I payed extra for that. Black/Silver perforated seats with silver door panels will look cool IMO

ok, i still need help on removing the back panels of the front seats....

sinewave, i tried to pull the corners and stuff like you said, but mine wont come loose. im afraid that im going to mess up the back piece (which i still need).

anyone have a good diagram of how it looks (the connector and the socket the connector fits into)? maybe from that i can visualize what i need to do to get it off..

i finished off my back seat last night!!! woo hoo. it looks completely different than the cloth setup!!! very nice looking. pretty much everything lined up, and the back installation was pretty easy... the extra (cotton?) backing (compared to the factory sponge backing really makes the seat more comfortable....

andyxxl, if you need any help on installing the back seat, let me know. i would recommend doing the "seat" piece of the back seat first, then the back piece.

Unfortunately I am 140 miles from home right now, so I can't post any pics. The nylon fasteners are bullet shaped with a button end that fits in a slot on the fiber board. You have to be careful not to pull it from the board because you can damage it. You can try slipping a blade screwdriver underneath the panel where the fastener is and gently pry on it. I would recommend that you wrap the screwdriver with electrical tape to prevent scratches. You can also buy a door panel removal tool at just about any auto parts store. IMHO, they are worth every bit of the $7.

BTW, Nissan does not sell the nylon connectors separately; if you lose or damage one, you'll have to buy the whole panel!

Did you guys get install instructions?

I just opened the box, did a quick look-thru and it didn't come with any instructions. I sort of expected some that were perhaps more detailed than on the website.

I felt the same way when I got mine but once you start, you will see how straightforward it is.

no install instructions came with mine either... but the instructions from the website is enough to do most of it....

to take back seat off, reach under the seat cushion along the edge where the thigh would be. you will feel two spring-loaded catches. if you pull those two and at the same time, lift up on the seat cushion, the cushion will come loose. look under the seat cushion and you will see how the cover is attached to the seat form. all around the perimeter of the seat cushion are the hog-rings. after you mark the location and remove the perimeter seat cushions, you can lift up a portion of the fabric cover. there are some embedded hog-rings that are connected to wires that help give the seat cover the right form. you have to remove those too. installing of the new seat cover is in reverse of the disassembly. hog-ring in the same places that the original was done in.

for the seatback, there are four bolts, one on each side by the door (visible when the lower seat cushion is out), and two bolts where the flipdown pass-thru is located. open the passthrough to the trunk, there is a loose flap of cloth that is connected on one side to the pass-thru door, and the otherside to a upside-down "u" shaped piece of plastic. if you pull that "U" channel off, you will see the two other bolts.

the seat back is a little more complicated because there is a little more disassembly needed. there are four bolts that hold the pass-thru door and the center flip-down cushion. take those off and you will be able to remove the flip-down section. you also have two screws to remove to get the spring latch that the pass-thru door catches on. take that off too. installation of the seat cover is the same as the bottom seat cover. for the center flip-down, after you wrestle the old cloth cover off, flip 1/2 of the leather cover over itself, and slide it on. then roll the rest over the remaining cushion. kinda like putting on socks.

thats all i got done so far. i'll be working on the front seats this weekend....

Hey DFWmax

Did you finish installing your seats? I just finished putting my back seat in, looks really nice. How did you remove the front passenger seat? I removed the bottom part only and stuck with the back piece.

Re: any body have trouble putting the front seat back on

I have the same type. Turn half of the seat cover inside out (up to the point where the first hog rings need to be fastened) then slide the cover on. I started with the passenger side front first (that way I knew approximately how long the driver side would take - since you can't drive with it apart). Good luck.

i tried that idea

i slipped the seats on half way inside out n rolled them on... instead of the ropes in the sleeves i used the metal rods from our stock seats (eric said they wuold fit better with the metal instead of the rope)...after rolling the whole cover on...im trying to grasp the rods togeter n hog rim them together ...however its proving to be very difficult...still cant get it..i been messin with it for over an hour already

I used the ropes

Didn't think there was any way one could get the rods to work where the ropes were.

It's a 9 year old thread mate, not 8. But mine has 4 clips each and a sort of hook on the top. The clips are in the lower corners and at the map pocket edge. You just pop them out and slide to whole thing down to remove.
