Question for you '99 cali-spec guys (exhaust)

Soo... I have in my hands a y-pipe from warpspeed and resonated test pipe from custom maxima. Currently my exhaust is stock, should I throw on the test pipe and have a 2.5" y-pipe -> 3" test pipe -> 2" cat(less)-back or leave the stock cat on?

Leave the stock cat on, unless you're boosting there is no purpose or need for it. Why is the thread only for 99 cali maxes? It pertains to everyone.

the 99 cali-spec is unique to the 95-99 fed-spec A32s. Nissan decided to implement the A33 exhaust into the 99s. IE: you change the y-pipe on a fed a32, you replace both pre-cats where as in the 99 cali's you only replace one.

Do whatever you want , there are no emissions in va. I would go ypipe all the way back, meaning cat back and all. I got the cattman set up and a stillen muffler , sounds real nice with a vortech intake! I thought with the 99 both precats came out with stock ypipe and the main cat was the existing one.

Ahhh Chad (indecisive311) told me about meeting you @ circuit city one night(drives a blue max).
I can't afford an aftermarket cat-back right now(stupid tuition) but I'm thinking about throwing in the y-pipe and resonated test pipe. Only problem is, I don't think infiniti would pass my car seeing a 1.5 foot long chrome test pipe on there in place of the cat. but if you say otherwise..

on the subject of the precats, fed spec you could replace both precats, but on cali- you can only remove the rear pre-cat.

If you got some headers wouldnt that remove the precat? I would say get a high flow cat. I always took my car out in Goochland to get inspected. Guy checks lights , horn and wipers.

I really don't see your point as all you're asking is if you should get straight pipe or leave the stock cat.

Is it worth it to replace the Y pipe in my 99 Cali specs?, as per only 1 precat removed of instead 2 from Fed specs; will I still get the same 15-20 hp gains?
or the difference will be minimum?

The gain won't be as much, maybe 7-10hp.
