Clicking noise near throttle body when car is not started!

I have a clicking noise around my throttle body. The noise is only heard when the key is in the on position. (my dad's 99 max doesn't have the clicking noise) anyone know what the problem could be?

Zipp - it could be your IACV stepper motor ... if it is coming from the IACV - its normal - maybe a little louder than it should be if the valve is a little dirty.

yeah I heard that in h2kfrost's 96 max the other day and wondered what that was. His idle is horrible, so he probably needs to clean it bad.

Been messing with you ECU screw lately? Is the ticking follow a constant pattern? I bet you just left your ECU screw in the wrong spot. Either turned the wrong way or just not turned back all the way. Go check it, trust me.

You sure...it sounds like tick tick, tick tick, tick tick. I bet it makes that noise when the motor is running as well, it's just not as easy to hear. I know you said you checked it, but put the key in the "on position so you can hear the ticking and play with the ECU screw.

I had the same problem in the summer and it's the iacv making the sound. pull it off and the sound will go away.

As Mike said, it's caused by the ecu screw not being reset to the correct position.

Okay, well today i decided to find that bugger. I checked the ecu to see if it was in the right position and it was. But when i turned it (as if i was to check my codes the clicking would go away, but the ticking would return once the screw was put in the correct position. I listened very closely and found that it was loudest near the acc valve. So i took it off. Then i took the enitre unit apart and cleaned it up. Once i plugged the big brown connector with the gray one it would start clicking. Then i took my acc valve unit to my dads 99 max and hooked it up to his and made no clicking noise.. So now i am clueless what to do.
