If you don't mind ruining the stock strut you could hold it there with a pair of visegrips. Somebody else probably has a better way to do it though.
Oh, I guess I thought you meant the whole piston (or whatever the part that goes into the shock is called) was spinning. I thought I saw some instructions where somebody was holding that with VGs. I haven't actually taken apart my suspension yet though so I it may not actually do this.

Got it guys. Used two visegrips one with a piece of rubber in between the shaft and the grips, the other i was pissed and just goon really tight. Twisted right off. Now for the reassembly and then start the other side

I have to work a half day tomorrow morning. I took a semester off so i dont have school til jan. I would love to finish this tonight i started at 11:00 so i have time spent already so i want to see it done. Front is done and 1/4 off the way done in the rear.
