How to Remove Hood Security Switch

I removed it from my car so I can sand and paint the rusty-@$$ steel bracket. Anyone know how to remove the plastic part from the metal part? It's on really tight and I don't want to break the plastic. Nissan probably never intended the two parts to be separated once together...

oh man, it took me forever! i used a tiny flathead screwdriver to push the pin out of the way...takes a while! maybe you could try spraying a drop of wd-40 or similar decreaser between the switch and the metal plate.

Good luck!!!

Looks like it should just pull out with some "coercing" but if it gets too hard, why not mask off the switch and just paint the visible bracket ?

so that's what that is...GXE folk such as myself are not privy to such amenities...

i'm going to assume that's one of the many wiring harnesses taped up under my hood for options i never had. if i had anything of value under my hood, and if i still had the stock alarm, i'd add that most def.

Thanks for the info. I'll try a bit of PB Blaster perhaps. What exactly do you mean by pushing the pin out of the way? Looking from the top there is a small slot. Inside I can see the metal but nothing to push. I guess I'll try sticking a little flathead in there and pushing/prying.

Gonna install a twin turbo kit AND a supercharger so I'll definitely be needing this super high-tech security component! j/k

Painting would be easy but as you can see there's tons of corrosion and it would be much easier to sand if I could remove the plastic part.

I couldn't take mine apart either. I didn't want to break it.

What grit Sandpaper would you use to get all that rust off? Mine look exactly the same way. I was thinkin of soakin them in some CLR or other type of Rust Away solution prior to sand or after, whichever would be better if that even mattered lol.
