I'll just stay out of the Northeast...

...if a thief wants your car they will take it. My '99 has the imobilizer chip so I'm not too worried about someone 'driving away' with it.

Would you guys like to hear a funny story?

I've seen a Maxima get stolen with the auto lock on...

It was a 4th gen 5 speed that got ditched about 2 blocks from my house... the autolock was on the brake pedal but as with any 5 speed car you can still drive it and put it in gear without pressing the brake... unlike an automatic. The theif stole it, drove it and slowed down I guess by downshifting or using the hand brake and they stripped the hell out of that poor car.

If you have an auto I would say its a good DETERANT... but as with anything else its not fool proof.

The Club is useless because they'll cut the steering wheel and the Club is slid off.

The AutoLock goes on the brake pedal and for most cars, this will prevent it from being shifted out of Park.

For stick shifts, it should be put on the clutch pedal and this will prevent it from being started, not on the brake pedal.

The steering wheel of a car is made of soft metal and plastic so that in an accident, it will flex and give and not break your arms as you brace for impact instinctively.

The pedals on cars however are much stronger steel as they will be stomped on the entire life of the car. They have to be durable and not give at all. So since the AutoLock goes on the pedals, it's more effective.

But nothing is foolproof. Want a cheap anti-theft device... fuel pump and/or starter cut off switch.

Better yet You should stay out of the South, Southwest and West...

Why does the Northeast get such a bad rap???

I got this out of another thread...

Headlines

California Still Tops in Auto Theft
Date Posted 11-18-2004
Thanks to six cities across the state with high theft rates, California can keep claiming it's the car theft capital of the U.S. (Wait, it's not on the license plates?) According to statistics from the FBI, and interpreted by the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), the Modesto metro area had the highest car theft rate of any American metro area in the 2003 calendar year.
The central California city was followed in the top 10, in order:
Phoenix, Ariz.
Stockton, Calif.
Las Vegas, Nev.
California's Sacramento, Fresno and Oakland
Miami, Fla.
San Diego
Detroit
The theft rates are measured per 100,000 residents in the city or metro area. In 2003, the NICB estimates that 1,260,471 vehicles were reported stolen, up slightly from 2002.

So where's NYC?

I pointed out NE because the original thread starter is from Brooklyn.
Every corner of the US has its bad parts of town...it isn't coast-specific...I know this. Even Dallas has areas you should stay away from if you have something worth stealing.

So sorry if you took offense, I understand you probably get a lot of that.

Nahh... No offense taken just wanted to share something I heard... I think its bad in Brooklyn either way... Its not like its safe to keep a car here or any where else... i was surprised when i read that info earlier... Im too much of a optimist to be offended by anything... I think... LOL
