1996 Maxima--Check engine light and other problems
1996 Nissan Maxima 139,000 miles
The check engine light came on and occasionaly kills at a stop light and bucks while accelerating. Computer check revealed Cam Position Sensor. Replaced Sensor and shortly after the CEL came on and started acting up again. Cam Sensor was replaced again and still the same problem. Can someone please shed some light on this problem? Thanks.

Also, is your Cam Sensor clean...meaning the harness? Full of oil?

Best advice I can give is to download the Factory Service Manual PDF files, then run through the diagnostic tree for DTC P0340. The FSM says if you have that code, the sensor is not the only possible cause. This type of sensor tends to be very reliable, BTW.
-check wiring harness for continuity or short circuit
-check engine ground connections
-check sensor for resistance 1440-1760 (Hitachi) or 2090-2550 (Mitsubishi)
-check ECM pin terminals for damage
-check surface of camshaft sprocket for damage
