I understand that Sparkplugs should be changed every 60k miles, and I'm not sure if mine were. I have 90k on it now and I'm getting pretty poor gas mileage (like 17 mpg - city). Everything else in the engine is tip top. I run Mobil 1 oil and have a K&N filter. Brand new fuel filter, knock sensor, o2 sensors, and the EGR and intake were just cleaned of carbon. So I'm about to think it must be the sparkplugs.

I am told that the Maxima takes platinum tipped plugs. How much are these to buy, and how much would a dealership charge for parts and labor do you guys think?

 

Check ebay for prices and call around the auto supply stores in your area.
You'll save alot by changing the sparkplugs yourself. It's easy.
