Weird Idle Issue!

Ok guys I just got my alternator replaced and the shop left my car in the bay overnight with the battery disconnected... I notice sometimes while at a light or stopped, the idle rises from the usual 650 to about 850 - 900 and sometimes stays there! This has got me worried, I also readjusted the installation of the Injen CAI, why would my IDLE go up like that, and then sometimes gradually come down???

a friend of mine had the same problem with her 88 jimmy. She took it to a mechanic and he replaced some vacum and the car was fine after that.

Wouldn't you hear a Vacuum leak, what else can it be? And it only happens on occassions, so I'm thinking maybe something else I don't know...? I'm worried.

I checked it and listened for things this morning under the hood I couldn't see or hear anything suspicious any other ideas?

Sounds like the exact same problem I started having after I removed my intake to work on the starter. While I was in there I cleaned the throttle body, and the wierd idle started. I don't know if taking off the intake created an air leak that I never had, or cleaning the throttle body did something. That seems odd since cleaingn the TB is supposed to IMPROVE your idle, but, oh well...

I tamed my idle as of yesterday by disconnecting the throttle positioning sensor and backing out the set screw on the throttle body. That, unfortunatley, seems to have created a very sensitive throttle response, which I'm not happy with. I will continue to work on this and post my results. Hopefully someone on this board can shed some more light on the idle issues related to these enginges.
