Battery and Brake lights on

I replaced the alternator just a bit over a year ago. It might be dead again but before i go to the mechanic and bust his ballz, could this be a warning for anything else?

Have you tried turning on the car? the lights might go out ...

check wires connecting to alternator...make sure there is no corrosion at the each end of them
