0430 Code

Have a 99 SE 5sp with the CA emmisions. The car had 2 codes. Code 1 was the knock sensor wich I have just replaced. Now I have a only the 0430 code Cat deficiancy bank 2. Was told the it needed some kind of ECU flash. Brought it to Nissan to be told that the flash had allready been done. The tell me I need a CAT. I have been into cars for some 20 years and have never replaced a Cat. The car has 125K on it a runs great but I am due for NJ inspection and it will not pass with the CEL on. Not sure what to do next.

P0430 code is listed in the 99 fsm. It is the same as code P0420 but for Bank 2 (front Bank). My mechanic is telling me to repalce the Pre Cat that is between the front Manifold and the Ypipe. Cali emmisions. It is an expensive part.

I went round and round with the but ended up have to replace the Front CAT nissan only part about $550 from courtsey Nissan. No more 0430 code. Now I have 1320 code AHHHHH! but I passed inspection. If ths car was not so fun to drive it would have been gone a while ago.

do you have an aftermarket y pipe? Could this problem cause the 0325 knock sensor code to come up, I just replaced it and the harness a few months ago. Last month i replaced all six ignition coils. I am getting depressed spending all this money so frequently. Maybe I can find a used front bank pre cat at the junkyard

I put a Cattman y pipe on when I did the cat still no 0430 code. so the cat was the problem. CA cars are way to complicated. The Cattman Y pipe trix the computer by reading both down stream O2 sensors from front bank. seems to work fine. If there is a code from the pipe it would be a 0420 code. This being a cat deficiency on the rear bank.

thats what i was thinking, i have a warpspeed y pipe. What could be the cause of it failing? With my luck i am sure it is just the start of some other problem I havent got a chance to investigate it completly yet. Am i alright driving it, or am i going to make things worse? I dont think it would .

As I said, I had to replace the front Cat, A can like thing you can see attached to the manifold. I drove the car from August til I was do for inspection (nov). Around mid oct I notice that it was running rough and stalled few times. I also had a bad Knock sensor. which may have caused the cat to go bad prematurely. I also spoke to Cattman about my problem he said that he had not heard of his or his competitors pipe causing the 0430 code. I like the upgraded ypipe car runs real strong. How many miles on your car mine had 120 when the ligth came on. Is your a stick? The machanic that worked on mine was very interested in my problem because he belives that he will be seeing a lot my of this as CA emission will soon be the norm.

Finally got a chance to get under it yesterday, one of the bolts that attaches the pre-cat to the manifold was missing, and the other 2 were loose. I tightened them up and added a new bolt. The 0325 code is gone now, but the 0430 is still there.

When my Cel came on originally back in August I had it checked and got both the 0325 Knock sensor and the 0430 Cat dificiancy on front bank. My mechanic thought that the bad knock sensor could cause the 0430 code by throughing off the timing. Did you get both codes at the same time? I hate to tell you this but you are going to have to replace the front Cat. or move the 2 down stream Ox sensors behind the main cat in the exahust. This would be dong my welding in Ox sensor bungs and extending the wiring. Do you also have a 0420 code? You said that you have a Warp speed y-pipe. This remove the Pre cat on the original y pipe. Just curious. Oh and BTW while I was in there I had the O2 sensors cahnged. Probaly spent more than the car is worth :-( good luck

i did get both 0325 & 0430 at the same time. Now only 0430 is coming up. With the Warpspeed Y the Front Pre Cat stays and the Rear Pre Cat doesnt.

I am going to see if it may be more cost effective for me to just convert it to Fed spec. I know that a few people have done this. It probaly isnt but I like to know what options I have. I dont want to have to spend $550 on a new pre cat, I am hoping to find one at a junk yard somewhere. It is tough because people are not familiar with the car and Fed/ Cali spec differences.

I want to find out the cause of this, Like you I have never had a Cat go bad before on any car I've ever had.

Thats weird, I my mind with the warpspeed ypipe you computer is reading both down stream sensors after only after the front bank pre cat. I would figure that if the cat was bad you would get both the 0430 Ft and 0420 Rr cat dificiency code. You might want to try changing the down stream O2 sensor maybe it is causing what seems to be a BAD Cat. One more thing I just thought of, my mechanic said there was a recall on the 99 max for a computer flash to change the peramiters for the 0430 code. Unfortuanlty mine had been done already. Be forwarned that if you get a JY part it might last only short time. If you are planning on keeping the car I would get a new one. Good luck and let me know how you make out. Been driving Nissans all my life but his one left a bad taste in my mouth. Give me back the nice simple 80s Z cars

I hear that on the 80's Z cars!!

I was thinking last night maybe it could be a lazy downstream 02 sensor. I got the car used about 3 years ago so im not sure if it had the computer flash. I guess I would have to take it to the stealership to find out?

the cat is bad , so i ordered a new one today ($474.00). i also went ahead and ordered the 02 sensors before and after the precat. i think they were on their way out. This way i can get it all done in one shot.

I just got this code. Would installing anti-foulers fix this issue? I don't really WANT to replace the cat/y-pipe.

When was the last time you replaced the air filter? if it's been a while, that could be the cause of the code. Those K/N filter allow more air to enter the engine so consider one of those as well. It's worth a try.

I replaced it about 2 months ago with a spare filter I had from my Sentra (barely used). it's one of those mushroom looking filters. Is there a specific filter I should be using? It's got a short ram intake right now. I'm about to order a AEM dryflow for the Sentra, should I get one as well for the Maxima?

I think the y-pipe was replaced already, but not sure what else was replaced, as I bought the car 5/2008. I got p0430 and the knock sensor code.

Well, my original question is still valid, concerning this code p0430. Can I install anti-foulers, if it's just the o2 sensor getting crazy readings from a aftermarket y-pipe?
