Removing ball studs from hood struts

I bought some "Steadylift" hood struts from my local parts store, and it looks like I need to install the old ball studs into the new struts. Problem is, I can't get them out of the old struts without breaking something. Am I missing something? Or is there another brand that just bolts up to the hood and body?

you have to pull that clip off the strut and the bolt with the ball will come out easily

Clip? What clip?

If it makes any difference these are original hood struts on a '96. All I see is a plain socket with the ball stud in it. Where would a clip be?

Thanks.

Original hood struts can't be taken apart. The clip referred to above comes with aftermarket (not OE) replacements.

Your new struts should have come with all the mounting hardware needed. I replaced mine and they came with all new ball stud things and everything.
