if your brakes lock up, you dont have abs. If you did have abs, you will feel and hear a weird noise when you slam on your brakes and no lock up.

Maybe its your calipers. Before i did my brake job, anytime it rained and unless i slowed down atleast 10 car lengths before a stop sign my abs would go off and i would slide a few feet. Looking at my rear left rotor there was rust and it was worn very unevenly. My right side looked fine but it was siezed up too. Changed out the calipers. Now when i inspect the rotors after i drive they all look nice and shiney(hot too) which proves they are working. The final test is when its raining and i brake hard it doesnt slip and the abs doesn't come on.

Or maybe you guys are just slamming the brakes when you should be easing them gently.

i always wondered, would a big brake kit make this worse or better? or even along the lines of motul racing brake fluid, stainless lines, slotted rotors, and better pads. anyone know for sure?

oil and water dont mix, learn to slow down in the rain.

It could be a combo of things, a bad alignment would cause it... other than I dunno if you have good tires.

They wont just lock up, you'll hear them biting for traction but not lock up completely.. its perfectly normal

The tires are what really stops the car; the brakes just slow the rotation of the tire. So first off, it could be that you just have bad tires. Other than that, it could just be something with the quality of brake parts that are on the car. My previous car was an old crappy mustang, and that thing would lock up in a heartbeat, even on dry pavement. On my max, I put on some Brembo stock replacement rotors and some Raybestos pads, and even though I don't have ABS, my wheels never lock up. I am also much more careful when driving in the rain anyways, so that helps.
