Aluminized Y-Pipe life compared to stock

I am looking at the Warpspeed Aluminized Y Pipe since I can still get it new for $160 shipped. The cheapest SS pipe is Budget's and it is 250 + 25 shipping Canadian, so this comes out to be like $60 more. I would dish out the money for the Budget pipe, but I hear that it is louder because of the unlined flex section. Anyway, I want to know how long the pipe should last when it goes through IL winters (which are somewhat rough, but not usually extremely bad). If it lasts for 6-7 years, I would be happy. My current stock Y-Pipe (7 years old) has signs of some rusting, but it still does its job. If the Warpspeed Y-Pipe holds this long, I would have no problem buying the Aluminized pipe. Will the aluminized pipe last 7 years with minimal rusting (and still be able to do its job well)? Rust is not necessarily bad unless it rusts all the way through, right?

Thanks!
Shawn

I think for $60 more, thats kind of like extended warrenty. I think its nothing to protect your investment.
Besides, even with warpspeed's warrenty, wouldnt you have to send back the old one for the new one? then youll be running without headers for a few weeks.
I say its not worth it to take the chance.

SS will rust over time just alot slower... you dont necessarily need it... look how long your stock exhaust has lasted and its aluminized.

even if it does start rusting a little bit, does that affect the performance of the pipe? i would think that unless it rusts all the way through, there shouldn't be a problem. i just want the pipe to be functional for 6-7 years (not necessarily no rust).

There's no problem with rusting until there's a hole. The flex section will probably rust through first...that's what seemed to happen to my stocker.

I see your point but he wanted one to last longer than aluminized. With aluminum, youre takin the chance. I just think for 1/3 the price more, itll hold up better. Best bang for the buck if you may.

i dont necessarily need it to last longer than my stock y pipe, which is aluminized.... i need it to last just as long as it already has, even if it rusts a bit

Very true, I dont disagree with you... I just feel if you live in a state that doesnt have much road salt you dont really need it... or if you wanna just be cheap, its not really a bad idea.

I suppose aluminized is best then.

i just had idea. correct me if this wouldnt work, but why dont you go ahead and get the aluminized one and when it comes spray it down with a few cans of rustoleam. that would cost $15 max and would it not still be rustproofing it?

Make sure it's a high temp paint or it will burn off and stink like crazy.

does anyone else have any idea on how long the pipe will last? and if the flex section is the first thing to go, are there differences in the SS flex section and the aluminized flex section?
