replacing alternator belt?

just wondering on how i can replace my alternator belt. are there any write ups? right now i can't start my car because i need a new belt, just wondering if i can cause any damage if i jump start it and run it without the belt. i know i prolly won't get far without car dying.
thanks

The only thing you have to do is loosen the idler pulley.. other than that you can slip the belt on. Its pretty simple as long as you know which way the belts run. Get a Haynes manual.
