Car starts hard but runs great..Help?????

I just bought a 1995 Maxima in great shape. The problem that is has is, it starts hard. I thought it was the starter, so I took it all apart and cleaned and greased it. Still happens. When turning over, it does a little back-firing and gets hard then easy, when usually it starts and runs perfect. I pulled the codes and got 0407 which is the crankshaft sensor. Also, knock sensor. Would either of these cause this? Seems like it would run bad even when started if the crank sensor was bad????? I did take both crank-shaft sensors out and cleaned them, along with the camshaft sensor......?? Any help is appreciated!!!

Chris

Change the crankshaft sensor.... should be fixed, if not come back and post.
...and yes the crankshaft sensor causes the car to have poor starts.

Thanks for the reply. I ordered a new one and won't be here for 3 days . I hope that is it. It had a lot of "sludge" on it. Thought I might of fixed it when I cleaned it, but it didn't help......

After you've replaced it and reset the ecu check it again in a few days even if the light isn't on for the KS code since it won't set off the light. If it is bad replacing it will give a HUGE performance gain.

that sludge on the sensor can affect it is that sludge had bits of metal shavings, hapepend to me. on the CPS (POS) , the code i got was 0407, but the code i shouldve had was 01-12? it hink im not sure. but clean them off, you might have not needed a new sensor at all. took me 10 hours to diagnose what was wrong becuse all resistenances checked out.

Terran: I will indeed change the knock sensor. I just need to figure out this starting problem. One other thing that I should mention is, when I got the car, the starter would not work at all, just click. I had intention of buying a new one. I thought, I had nothing to loose by taking it apart and cleaning it. So that's what I did. Cleaned everything inside and greased it. After I did that, it seems to work great....... Maybe there's something wrong with it after all??????? Doesn't seem to be, and the car is throwing a crankshaft sensor code.... If the computer is "throwing" the engine inaccurate timing due to a bad sensor, I suppose it would cause a hard start-up???? It's just strange that it runs so good once started....

Yeah, I did clean both crank sensors. Unfortunately, no luck. The flywheel one had some shavings......

Later,
Chris
