brake question

Which calipers, front or rear?
Go to www.motorvate.ca, he has a good write-up for the front brakes. Rears are similar except that you must turn the caliper piston to get it to retract instead of compressing with a c-clamp. You can buy a special tool for this or improvise with a set of long-nose pliers.

You need to compress the piston before you put in the new pads. I will try to describe.
Put one of your old pads in the caliper to cover the piston. Now take a C-clamp or similar clamp used for woodworking and use that to compress the piston so it will retract back into the caliper. Be careful not to accidentally compress the bleeder screw!
You should be able to carry on from there.

Yes, you can. Just look at the pictures and write-up on this page:
http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/302
You will see where he is using a c-clamp to compress the caliper piston.
I assumed you were changing brake pads. Even if you are not, assembly/disassebly of the brakes is similar.
