I got the EGR code today. Haynes has a pretty good description of how to diagnose/check the EGR system.

Can anyone who has had this code and actually fixed it themselves give me some tips/comments on how they fixed the problem?

Its too dark out right now. I went out with the flashlight and couldn't find it - is it under the throttle body?

Any tips on cleaning it out or cleaning the hoses it out? I have 250k on my car and I'm guessing the valve is no good, or really needs a cleaning.

Any tips are more then welcome.

 

when i had that code the mechanic said that my egr valve wasn't opening and closing, hope that helps.

 

I had the code. I actually just cleaned the **** out of my throttle body with some TB cleaner a toothbrush and an old wifebeater. Then i reset the CEL and it hasnt come back for 6 months. Hope that helps...if not here are some links that could help

I had this code for a month..it was a ***** to resolve..finally was resolved by replacing EGRC solenoid valve.

How common is the problem?
