Front end idea!!!

I just finished replacing the grill on my '95 SE with a '97+ grill. Then I suddenly got this idea. What do you all think, YES OR NO?

definitely looks more aggressive with the one big cutout, rather than the two smaller ones. it's pretty cool.

i don't like the mesh though, looks too home depot. maybe try some heavy black mesh instead.

southeast_first,

Those are actually the automotive mesh sold on eBay, just did some photoshop magic that's all. I can try to do it in black.

dennisadhs,

I'm sure anything can be done with the right tools. You can probably dremel off the bar that goes in the middle. Then use some type of poly-filler which is used to repair bumper covers. The only thing is that it might expose a metal beam behind it but it could probably be conceiled with some matt black paint and the mesh should totally draw attention away from it.

I guess I'll try this mod when I have extra money laying around but it wouldn't hurt to start canvasing for prices from local body shops now.

I think it looks good, except the major problem would come when you have to fill in the holes in the side that you made from cutting that "middle bar" off.

Also, for those of us who don't have to have a front licence plate (rock on MI) it would look even better

needs a front mount

I think if the grille is recessed it'll look even better.

This has actually been done before. Check this link out and check out some of the pics (the ones without the M front bumper) http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/214917/2

You can cut the bumper, but then you would have to deal with the metal bumper support on the back, so you would need to either cut the support out or cover it with mesh like the photoshopped pics.

intresting.. but i think this would only look right if it was filled with a huge front mount; otherwise just convert to a 97 front bumper.

I does look like the M style bumper but would have a lot less fitment issues, it would need the mesh grill or a intercooler, it looks to ugly with nothing there.

Try Photshoping on some clears, cause none of us (except for some) have the stock oranges on still, and maybe with the clears it could enhance the look.

I really like this idea, especially the black mesh look. Here's a variation I'm curious about though... How about white mesh on a dark colored Max, say Deep Evergreen maybe?

2 Da Max,

HAHA.......try it! It's all about sharing ideas. I'm gonna print this out and start going around for pricing. I wonder if Dynamic Designs in the valley can do this?

bullfrog,

I think that will look like a dark skinned man with a really bright smile (big teef!)

BTW, Anyone want to provide a clear high res pic of their 97+ Maxima front end? I'll try cutting the middle bar off of the lower valance and see how this mod will look on it?

Make sure you tape off the areas you are about to cut with masking tape and draw the line that will be your guide for cutting. Hacksaw might not give you a smooooove cut tho.

i just realized something. i might need a bigger hacksaw lol. na i didnt realise how thick that piece in the middle is. after that is cut it will look like 2 ovals which then the sides would have be rounded out. i would love to do this dough it looks like a nice body kit for some reason

Yep it does, free body kit if your bumper cover is in good shape. Since my bumper cover needs some patching up I will remove my existing one, cut the middle bar out, and take it to a good body shop to have them do the patch work and finishing touches and painting. I'll probably wait and do this at the beginning of spring. I gotta get a clutch job first.

BTW, that big opening can probably be utilized for some type of custom piping for a real ram-air intake.
