i once heard that in a sentra every 100 pounds is equivelant to losing i think 10 horse, maybe 5 that sounds better, so is there anything that we can do to reduce weight short of gutting the car of everything but the drivers seat. Possible ideas are sound insullation, spare tire (but youll probably need that someday), stereo etc...

LMAO@Capmaxima

haha...

Take out the backseat, spare tire, gut the trunk, get super lightweight Mugen (?) 15" rims, take out headlights, remove door panels, center armrest... etc.. lol, I know some people actually do stuff like that for the track, which I don't really understand, because ofcourse if you gut any car and make it lighter it will be easier for the engine to pull it, but that's not really your car, you don't drive it gutted that way all the time...

who needs doors and a hood. Toss out the brakes. dont need them. Chop of the roof and maybe you can get .5 sec faster. I dont know. But I rather drive in style.

Here's some racing advise from my friend's drunk step father.
I thought it was funny but ridiculous.
He said that when you're about to race someone, you should take a crap in in a bag really quick to loose weight and then throw it into the competitors ride to add weight and slow him down.
Wise words from the drunkerd.

Or you could throw on his windshield at an inopportune time...

okok honestly. Here is what i have learned over the time, hehe. First your battery, its pretty heavy , you could look in to a lighter one. Your radio, speakers and amps can all go. The ac can be removed. The back seats can go with maybe the front seat too. Also the spare tire and jack. You can remove the sound dampering in the whole car which is a pain in the ***. Light rims are a good idea. Ok now for the fuel. The less the fule the lighter the car. Also window washing fluid, that can add up to 3 three pounds. Then there are the fog lights also.

MT times

i honestly think i have the fastest stock max, i only have intake so i know you guys with mods are faster than me, and yes i know that it depends on the driver blah blah blah, but, according to most magazines that tested my year model 5 speed, i do in fact have the fastest, and so what if mine isnt as safe, i always weear my helmet when driving.
hehe

aww crap i thougth i bookmarked it but i didnt, there was a post a week ago or so that had tons of 0-60 times from all diff. magazines and for all different times, anybody know which it was.

i aint trying to start anything either, i am laughing each time i put up a post, so dont think i am trying to start anything, i am a peaceful man.

Heres a few ideas, get a carbon fiber hood{-40LB'S} get a Y-Pipe{-12LB's} get a SI{-3} and remove all that garbage that use to be used with the stock air filter box. Those three things will drop you a total of 65LB's making your car way only 2953 lb's. Of course there are tons of other things that people mentioned but the things I said are the most practical things to do. Ohh yeah, don't get a SC it adds about 25lb's to your car and slows you down big time.

do they make a lighter SC ?

i mean 15 pounds is acceptable but 25 geez, that 10 pounds is robbing me a valuable 1/8th horsepower. I am going to bed. night all.

Well I just put a smaller pully on{3.48} and made the edges low profile, I would say I droped 2 oz's easaly. I noticed the drop in weight emediatly, it felt like I picked up a extra 15 HP. Wow!

Lightweight rims will make a significant difference. Believe me. Not only will you shed weight, your engine will be able to spin the wheels much easier at all speeds (ie like removing from your car). Run a 1/3 tank of gas and pull the spare and jack. Also, get all the that stereo crap out of your car. You're a performancee guy.

Last I heard they are avalable for the max, I think Chebesto has info at his site, www.maximadriver.com . About the color of the hood, it is and looks like carbon fiber but it can easaly be painted to any color.

Drive around with less than 1/8 of a tank all the time. Gasoline weights about 7 lbs. a gallon, so 16X7=112 lbs. That should be more weight than you can pull from the inside of your car. BTW, have you weighed your car, or are you just making up the lightest claim, oh and secondly, if you have an intake you no longer have a stock Maxima. A stock Maxima nothing but OEM parts in it.

How does he know that he he has the quickest nearly stock 4th gen? I don't see any ETs? If he's going by what MT says or by who he's beat on the street, I'm gonna slap the guy

As far as weight reduction, it works. Every 100lbs is suppose to take off a 1/10 off your quater mile. True or not? Im not sure.

If you want to drop some weight for the track, do this:
1-take out spare tire, jack and acc for it
2-gut the trunk (panels and all)
3-Remove back seats (all of it)
4-See that dark stuff that looks like tar under teh back seats? That is sound dampener from the factory. Scrape that off
5-Remove system
6-Remove passenger seats
7-Remove FSTB, RSTB, & RSB
8-Use small an dlight weight rims around

For the Extreme:
Remove all door panels and electrics
Remove A/C condenser
Remove Power Steering
Do not use lowering springs since they are heavier

Hope this helps.

Are you talking about Motor Trends long term test 95 Maxima that ran 15.2@92mph? That's the quickest I know of a 4th gen being tested by the mag. However, the 5th gen is still the quickest and fastest tested. MT got a 15.1@94mph. Don't forget MT also corrects ALL their ets to atmosphere and sea level. Therefore, I'm running 14.53@95.4mph according to them with just a B-pipe, Y-pipe, and revised stock airbox Which makes my Maxima as quick as JeffKs 95 Maxima (on street tires) even though I don't have an JWT ECU or aftermarket muffler.

BTW, the 95 Maxs are no quicker than the 96s (nothing is different-both are OBDII). The only reason the 97-98s are slower is because of the added weight of the 16s. The 99s are dawgs. Why? I don't know.
