5-spd is way more fun, more reliable, better performance, better mileage...

Need I say more?

But I wish for an auto clutch manual, something like Audi's DSG or Magnetti Marrelli unit that Ferrari uses.

I agree with everyone else...just swap in the manual tranny. You'll be glad you did.

i prefer a 5sp; more fun, lasts longer, better performance

however an auto has better resale value

just something to think about.

But a 5 spd can be harder to find sometimes making it more valuable. I would never own an auto maxima. It takes all the fun out of the car.

I don't know about the better mileage part, it makes me drive a little more spirited, also overdrive is a tall *** gear for highway use, but swap in the 5 spd. The difference is incredible. It'll feel like a brand new car.

i wouldn't do a 5spd conversion..too many things can go wrong..and then you have to hide it or not, when selling the car..i'd rather sell the car and get a 5spd that came that way..

i got an auto, and i have no regrets. you can make your auto shift faster and launch faster than any 5spd if done right.

go with the high stall torque converter, vb upgrade, and tranny cooler. then boost it.

sure, you can go fast, but all that takes is one single movement. Let yourself be INVOLVED in the driving, and have more fun. IMO, it's not fun to just floor a car...

you also have probably not driven a 5 spd. maxima....

A Full thread of people suggest Manual, if you can do it or have people who can help you do it, go ahead with the conversion, you'll love the 5 speed, and if you can do the conversion for $400?? thats tranny clutch, flywheel, and necesarry plumbing???

I'm probably not experienced enough yet, but i think auto is better in regular diriving. We have a few hills here, and i cant imagine how it would be on a manual maxima. Sure, the only car i practiced manual on was a 94 Ford Escort Wagon, but its still a manual. Is it easier on a Maxima?

this is true. I plan on never owning an auto equipped vehicle, so far so good. A manual is even more fun then these cars that have shifttronic, autotronic, supertronic etc etc etc.

Nothing beats a stick.

i agree, manual is better in many applications, but for me, i do alot of city driving, and would much rather prefer an automatic in the city, especially in traffic, than a manual. On the highway the manual wins hands down, and it is more fun to drive (opinion)

If you look in www.edmunds.com, you'll see the automatic max has a better highway gas mileage then the manual... weird, right?

At the track, I'd prefer a manual, but i have an auto, so i kind of don't have a choice..(no money)..i have driven a manual before, so I know how involved you have to be with your driving to race.

A 5spd swap would be good, but it's very complicated, and you could have many more potential problems than if you just built your auto tranny. I would get an NRH tranny and put as much boost as I can on it...

in a week you will have NO problem starting the Maxima on hills. Just takes a little practice, before you know it you won't even be thinking about it.

I can eat a hamburger, change cd's, talk on my cell phone and still shift gears (not that i recommend that). Ok no i have never done all that at once, but i am confident that i could.

and also lets not forget how much it costs to overhaul an auto

airight well thx for all the input i like the stall idea and i have driven a 5 spd but not a maxi all i know is that i get my *** handed to me when i get next to one even if it is stock...i think that i will have to go with the 5 spd just because it is more fun than just pushing a pedal to the floor to go and it is fun to ride second gear and hit the gas when u want :P
