When I crank up my car, it sounds normal...until I release the clutch while it's in neutral. It seems like the clutch or flywheel is knocking something every RPM @ idle. When I put it in gear and go....it goes away.

It's not very loud, but I noticed it today - Any ideas on whats causing it?

You know the bearings inside the tranny? Probably those.

Seriously. Either the input/outputshaft bearing or if you are lucky, the TO bearing.

 

aren't you getting sick of these ****ing cars? It's like you fix one thing and another one breaks. did you ever get another clutch?

 

sound like the TO bearing, only reason I know this is bc Matt told me what it was when I heard it on his car.

 

i will tell you right now it is deffinately not the TO bearing that is rediculous that some1 would even think that. tell me how a throw out bearing is goint to make noise when its NOT spinning. he said it make a noise off the clutch therefore the to bearing is in a resting position not riding on the pressure plate. any ways it is almost definately 1 of the bearings inside the tranny such as either 1 of the input shaft bearings or output shaft bearings. i know i just finished rebuilding mine today in my garage. thank you very much

I don't really know what you said , but the TO bearing will make a whining noise when the clutch pedal is not pressed -- in the outermost position. It goes away when the clutch pedal is depressed, and comes back out when the clutch is let out...

and your 19...if you're going to try to make an educated reply about something mechanical that most likely will get confusing when many people are talking about it, at least try making the explaination sound a little bit intelligent. Use punctuation, capitalization, and correct spelling so that everyone can make sense of it. What I said was not wrong -- I had a faulty throwout bearing, and I know the noise. However, I never said that YOU were wrong either, it could be many things. Go find yourself an education, as$.

 

Oh, by the way, Ant -- that was one of THE funniest threads (red/clears and clear paint) that I've read so far. Poor guy, wasted $4.00. I guess he deserves it.
