hood struts replacement question

my 95 max hood struts won't support the hood open. so i'm looking for replacement (or anyone knows how to fix the struts?). do you have any recommendation for brand/price?

I'm using a small vice grip right now to hold the hood open. Cheaper than 2 new struts.

I've used a golf club in the past... heh. The hydraulic bits on our hood struts don't seem to last very long, so you'd think this would be a common topic... I haven't been specifically looking for threads about this, so I might have missed some, but I don't think I've ever seen one talking about a good replacement. I'm guessing most people just use whatever they can get their hands on to prop it up.

I bought mine at Advanced Auto with a lifetime warranty., but I've heard they don't offer them anymore. I think what hurts em is the cold weather, and GA is comparitively mild, so mine ahve been fine so far.

Picked this up at Advance a couple of years ago, I can loan out my vice grips and I don't have to take the wood out of my car before people get into my back seat.
Just make sure any moron that ever works on your car knows it's there or you get a bent hood.

Nice....what do they call it? I'll look for it around here. BTW, noone borrows my vicegrip that often. Not a very popular tool ya know.

I'm using a hose clamp on my strut. I guess I'm too lazy to change them out.

thanks for all the answers. yes, advanced auto parts sell "strong arm" for 2 * $19 for a pair (AND lifetime warranty). might buy them. but just figured out that my umbrella is of the exact length to prop up the hood (only thing in my apartment to fit in). might buy/install the struts or vice grip (very cute device) after finish the current job just using the umbrella.

I got mine from RS Strauss Auto Parts. I don't know if you guys heard of it, its popular here. Their about 21.99 a piece for Strong Arm Brand shocks. Go to their website and print out a $5 coupon also which makes it 16.99. Its like 27.99 at AutoZone I think.
