Shift Lock Sticking on a 1998
Shift Lock Sticking on a 1998
I am having issues with my Shift Lock Sticking when it gets cold on my '98. As long as it is warm there is no problem getting it in drive, however as soon as it drops below 30 I can't get it out of park.
I have been manually doing it with my hand (i.e. pulling off the shifter console and using my fingers to push the lock up) but want to know how to fix it.
A few months ago I took it in to the dealer because I could get my key out of the ignition while the car was in drive, and could shift the car without having the key in. They made some adjustments and everything was set back how it was supposed to. However when I picked up the car there was the same issue I am having now. They said it just had to be readjusted and did a quick fix on it.
So I guess my main question is, is there anyway to adjust the Shift Lock?
Any help would be great guys!!

first off, if you paid them to fix the problem and its still doing it, take it back to them until it is fixed.
the other option is to take the saftey lock out and then held the rest of the assembly in the open position with duct tape, i did this with my 90 max and everything worked just fine, it just makes it easier to mess up your car if you switch gears while driving or other stuff like that
good luck

Have You Spilled Anything On The Console, Like Coffee Or Soda? That Happened To My Sister And It Got Sticky Enough To Make Shifting Hard If Not Impossible. Once We Cleaned Everthing, It Worked Fine Again.
sorry 'bout the caps!

Nope, nothing has ever been spilled, I keep my **** clean.............hahhah.
How did you get it out to clean it? Maybe I can just clean it anyway and see if that helps. Did you have to take out the entire console?
But seriously it only happens when it is cold out. Last few weeks it was below 30 out and it stuck every time. This past week it has been between 50-70 and it shifts every time.
