Hey everyone I'm just wondering, about how much would a GOOD paint job cost me? I'm not talking about a cheap job, I'm talking about new-car-in-the-showroom paint. It would be the same color as it is now, if that would save anything.

Good paint job with like zero orange peel, and like 7 layers is usually like 2700-3000 i think.. not like i know, im gettin it done cheaper thru a friend.. but i THINK thats about what a regular paint job should cost? I know there are other guys around here who know the names of types of paints that should be used n stuff.

Make sure you get a good paint job if you decide thats what you want to do. My cousin had a white Accord and had it painted gold by Maaco and about 6 months later most of the paint came off the bumpers. That was the biggest waste of money I'd ever seen. I wanted to do the same thing with my Max but I didn't want to change the color. I guy that I work with used to do auto body and told me that if I painted the car over, the paint will never be the same (I am sure it would be better than it is with a good paint job). If you want the restore the finish yourself, go to www.3M.com

They have info to help you out. I have already wet sanded my car and what a difference.

It's a bit less if you're going same color. An good paint shop I would trust with the job said around $1200 same color and $2000-$3000 for a different color. That's assuming you want your engine bay and everything to match.

Any recommended place for a good paint job? I guess Maaco isn't a good place to go since that accord guy got his bumper messed up... I want a paint job that is just like the way it was when I bought the max from the dealer. Oh yea, does the dealer do paints too?

You have to tell people where you are before they can give you good body shops. There are no real good body shop chains, so people have to know your area. Also, dealers don't do paint usually. Most of the time, all of their body work is contracted out to a local body shop.

Here's the thing, the paint on a Maxima sucks from the factory, so replicating it isn't that hard. There's orange peel everywhere, it chips easily, etc. You could get it done for like $1500. But if you want a really nice paint job where there is no orange peel, overspray, etc. and the everything has been done perfect, you're looking at $2500 to $3k.

A good place will actually take most of your car apart before they paint it. What I mean by that is they will remove such items as taillights, headlights, mirrors, any trim/molding and other various parts. This is to give the appearance of a factory type paint job. Makes it look like it was never painted.

The next thing is the type of paint that will be used and it,s application process. Different painters have their own personal prefferences as to which brand to use but usually a name brand such as Dupont/Imron is a good one to start off with. Polyurethane, from what I,ve heard, is the best to go with. Course I,m going on what my friend, who is a painter, has told me but I,m sure you will have to agree to hopefully most of what I mentioned.
