Don't buy Silverstars

I hear alot about these bulbs not lasting long on the org and i've found proof from sylvania that they were not made to last long. Waste of $40! Silverstars denoted by 9006ST is only rated at 150 while the regulars are at 850!

For 9004, even the XV are rated quite low at 220 hrs against 150 hrs of Silverstars.

MrEous Dec 29, 2004 09:33 AM

Nice...are you using the 9006 list since 9004 isn't listed? just curious.

sterlingmaxima Dec 29, 2004 10:00 AM

What's the rated life of PIAA Xtremes ?!? Maybe we can calculate cost/hr of both and see what's efficient :)

sook Dec 29, 2004 02:26 PM

what is the best 9007? jeez, headlights seem to have all sorts of questions i cant find the answers to

Blackwind Dec 29, 2004 04:24 PM

Pimpmobile Dec 29, 2004 04:26 PM

meh, the joys of canadian tire gift card. I dont mind the look of them and they sure beat my old ones there were on the verg of burning out.

Ant96GLE Dec 29, 2004 04:55 PM

I've had my silverstars for almost a year... and I put about 30,000 miles just this year on my car

flthere Dec 29, 2004 08:40 PM

Miles are fine, but any idea how many hours you had your headlights on ?!? :-) Actually, I tried googling but I can't find anywhere the rated bulb life of PIAAs. I guess no. of miles is not the criterion to determine the bulb life.

Ant96GLE Dec 29, 2004 09:23 PM

Thats why I said I've driven over 30,000 miles this year... meaning I drive ALOT... especially at night since I work at night :D

p00tan6 Dec 29, 2004 10:15 PM

I guess you're one of the lucky guys. I have owned a set of H4 SS and a set of 9006 and both of them had very short lives.

Bottom line, SilverStars lifespan sucks. Even the manufactor thinks so. I think if they put that the life was only 200 hours on the box no one would buy it. It really is a rip off for $40 a set.

Walmart just got some new GE one's in that are comparable to the Sylvania silverstars. I wonder if anyone has tried them and if they are good. I believe they run $30 a set.
