Short Shifter Blues

I recently bought a Nismo Short Shifter off ebay. AFter payment was sent company emials me 2 days later saying that they will be refunidng my money since they no longer have item available and wont get more in for few weeks.

Back to ebay, now i buy a Cosmo short shifter. When i finally get it and throw it in, throws are much shorter...great really, but the shifter itself is too tall. Has anyone else suffered from a "tall"-short shifter? Should i buy another short shifter and hopefully come out in a better situation or just get to cutting as i had originally planned to do in the first place?
