Too much play in steering
Too much play in steering
Just recently had new tires installed, Kumho Ecsta ASX 225/50/16, decided to upgrade from 215/55/16, so far so good. However there is a lot of play in the steering as it feels more loose. What can cause excess play in the steering?

New tires = deeper tread = more tread squirm
Plus believe it or not, your tires need to break in as well. The lubrication agents used when making the tire slowly come out when their first used. The rubber will stick better once thats finished. Drive em for a while and see what they feel like after a few weeks. Check your alignment as well, it's cheap & it's good insurance for a new set of tires.
Motorcyclists know this all too well. New tires are down right dangerous on a bike. You need about 100 miles and some slow sweepers to break in the edges.
