time to put my maxima out of its misery

i always said id drive my maxima into the ground, i think its ready to go, what do you think

ball bearings are ready to go
rotors warped
breaks have 1 month left
piston misfires
makes crunching/sqeaking noise when making turns at low speeds
somtimes you have to bang on the starter to get it to crank
part of the alarm fried
125,000 miles
exhaust looks all rusted to crap
rough idle
doesnt seem to be "fast" any more

Just give her some TLC and she'll be as good as new.

it all depends on what your plans are? if you want a new car, another used car, or want the max back in her glory days.

- Ball bearing: New Tranny 5th Gen (assuming those ball bearing are the ones in the - tranny your talking about
- New Rotors performance ones, or just OEM
- New Brakes, thats a regular mantinance unless you mean calipers too.
- why does the piston misfire? piston rings fried?
- axles dying. . . raxles.com
- 125, is still young for the Max, you have some on here in the 225K club
- Exhaust. . . comon . . . NEW EXHAUST!!! You have a variety of choices from bolt ons to custom.
- idle . . . clean TB, injecot cleaning solution, seafoam, or something of that nature to clean out the car.

Once you get all that I'm sure she'll feel like a beast again.

Ofcourse it all depends on how much money you have to spend, if you were going to sell the car you might not get much for reasons you have listed, in which your options would be either repair and sell or, part it out.

Corrected

If you have the money get a new car. If you love your maxima fix the car. It's really up to you.

Your looking at about $1,500 - $2,000 in repairs for parts only.

Rotors & Pads
CV Boot(s)
Bearings
Ignition Coils (rough idle)
Knock sensor, MAF sensor, or O2 sensor (This is probably why she is slow)
Starter
Exhaust
Alarm

Put some love her and she will be just like new. Your call if you want to sell her off. You'll probably only get about $2,000 for your MAX.

Damn, that all seems like mostly maintenance or minor wear and tear.

I could make laist like that for my 205k mile car. But it's all minor stuff that I will get to when I have time.

You car is far from "driven into the ground."

Sounds like you just don't take care of the car. 125,000 is nothing if you keep on top of regular maintenance. I bought my car with more miles than that.

What ball bearings? Wheel bearings or ball joints?

I agree with what mzmtg stated. My car too has a lot of minor fixes it needs, mostly due to age/mileage.

Your car just needs some atention.

You will find little sympathy here. Everything except for "piston misfire" is normal wear and tear. I have 253,xxx miles and have changed most of what you have listed. Maybe you should get another car, cause the max is not for you.

Maybe you've just out grown the Car or just done like doing mantinance/repairs so get a new car so that all you'll have to do it oil changes and if something serious breaks it should be under warantee so you just take to dealer drop off, pick up a rental till yours is done.

I have to do a lot of repairs too, to my Max but I still love the car and will repair cause I want to, and its part of driving a car, but were not all the same.

Really like the 3.5L, but couldn't afford the G or 350, and didn't like the Altima styling, so I decided to get a newer version of the Max.

I waited until the 04 was released, realized I didn't like the styling, and even after a year, it still hadn't grown on me like the 5th gen styling did after only a few months.

sounds like your looking for reasons to get a new car, your car doesnt seem near ran into the ground yet. put a $1-2k into and itll be good for quite a few more years. youll lose atleast that as soon as you buy a new/newer car. otherwise start car shopping and find a nice 2k2 or something

yea i agree with you to get a 5.5 gen, thats what im gonna do

looked at these other options though
'02 '03 3.2 tl type s (insurance high 275-360/mo)
'01 audi s4 (insurance WAY too high 660/mo)
g35 (kinda $$$ and not sure its as fast or much faster than max)
altimas (ehh... yuck)
'01 audi a6 (slower than s4, prolly lots of insurance too)
'99 m3 (gonna be too old... man i love m3s)
350z (gonna be too small)
mazda 6 (expensive replacement parts, got sick of design)

im kind of mixed if i were in your position. if you have the undying love for all things maxima, as i do, its a perfect project car, but on the other hand, i would love any excuse to get a g35 coupe, that is basically my realistic dream car, but if i were u, i would fix the max, its got more soul than a g35.

There's NO way you'd get away with that.

They will pick that up first thing and probably wouldn't even consider it as a trade.

I think driving a car into the ground kind of implies not caring about fixing it and keeping it running... but in that case, give your poor max a break and sell it before you do damage to it. You'll probably get more for it anyways, in that case. I know you said it has a salvage license, which sucks, but even orphaned children need love.

As for your other options, the S4, the M3 and the G35 all look like tasty alternatives to a 5.5gen... I lost my love for the Maximas after the 4th gen (which I think are perfect) though, so I'm biased. To quote a friend of mine, "If I could, I'd get a G35 coupe and just lose to everyone who wanted to race." That car is sexy in so many ways... it's worth it! Just my opinion though.
