water pump stuck

hey guys I need a little help. I started to replace my water pump on my 96 i-30 (dohc) and it got stuck trying to get it through the timing chain cover. Right now i'm thinking I'll have to remove the timing chain cover and go from there but my haynes manual says I'll have to remove a bunch of crap including the exhaust pipe and cat. Has anyone done this before? any help would be great. thanks

Unbolt the engine mount and jack the engine up about and inch. You should be able to play around with it to get enough room. I just did this procedure and that worked well.

Hi, I am stuck with the same issue. My Friend who is a trained mechanic is trying to replace my 97 I30 water pump. The pump is stuck and doesnt want to come out. Any suggestions for getting the water pump without removing the timing chain cover? My friend talked to a nissan dealer mechanic and the mechanci says it needs some special tools from Nissan dealership which I am not sure.

Thanks in advance
