Auto Shifter stuck in park

Hi, I have a 97 SE and on occasion it will be stuck in park and not let me shift into drive. The only way it moves is if I jiggle the shifter or press the button many times at different angels and it will finally shift. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks

my cousin had this problem in her jetta, the problem there was that the switch on the brake pedal wasnt registering the pedal down, so it wouldnt shift out of park. check around for something to the tune of that. hope i can help!

pull the e-brake up everytime you park. that way the car wont roll anywhere and cause the transmission to lock up the shifter like that. give that a try and see if it's the problem. if it isnt, then check what RockfordMax said.
