The Dreaded Code P1320...

Greetings. I'm new to the forums. Just bought a 99 GXE with a CEL. Pulled the code "P1320 - Ignition Misfire" The car runs great and pulls with all the power I know a Maxima should have. I am concerned because I am seeing info on TSB's about there being a common problem with the coils.

When I ran the scan tool the code was only in there once. Could it pissibly be due to bad gas causing a misfire and the CEL is trying to let me know? or do I need to replace the coils?

Second part of the question. Will the 5th gen Maxima coils work on the 4th gen motor?

it's a 99 so it's more than likely your coils... how many miles do you have?

Car only has 54,4xx miles on it.

Another question. What is the recommended Idle speed for these cars. It idles nice and smooth, but at 500 rpm. Is that normal?

I believe idle should be 750RPM. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

One of my coils went at just over 40K miles (but didn't replace it) and another one at just over 60K (when I just decided to have them all replaced.

prob a coil, what octane have you been using? and whats the name of the gas station?

if it does turn out to be a coil it will run you around $100 for a new one.

The car feels fine then from time to time or no sluggishness at all? if so you could wait till the car throws the code so you know which coil is on the way, or have the car diagnosed to save time.

dont know about 5th gen coil. anyone

Well, we just got the car. So we dont know what octane is in it. Good chance it is el cheapo gas. I already know that the car demands 91 octane.

The car runs great the majority of the time, then intermittently it will shudder... just a little. The symptoms and the code seem to match the TSB. I bought the car from the dealer with the condition that they will fix the cause of the SES light. So I am going to walk in with the TSB in hand and tell them I want all 6 coils replaced free or they lost my business.

Wish me luck, and thanks for the info.

Idle speed depends on whether you have a stick or an auto. I dont really remember but a manual should be somewhere around 700 and a stick should be somewhere around 600. Its in another post about adjusting the IAC valve somewhere on here.

Thanks for the info guys.

One other question. Does the Max have the standard OBD-II connector. Or is it some special deal? also has anyone had issues pulling codes with the el cheapo $30 scanners?
