Resetting your ECU Doesn't hurt anything. Go ahead and do it.
As for feeling slow, define slow. I know when I just duct-taped a kn flat filter to my Altima w/no lower box, there was absolutely no torque on the low rpm. Up high, it screamed, but I don't think the car was any faster.

For my 97 Maxima, again I lost low end torque, and possibly freer breathing closer to redline, which I only need at the track. I really don't care for my intake.

Stick your key in, turn it to "on" but keep the engine off. Turn screw full clockwise, counterclockwise, clockwise, counterclockwise. Turn ignition off and you're done.
