Dustboots and Bumpstop cutting

So after seeing so many people with their KYB boots falling apart I thought I would go with OEM and just cut the bumpstops. These will be used with tokico illumina's and H-techs (reportedly 1.6"F/1.2"R, but I don't know how acurate this is).

I think this should work all right with the fronts since they just sit on top of the strut body. Here's what they look like:

I thought maybe just cut off the first coil on the bumpstop. This should give another 1" of travel. What did others do? Has anyone compared stock to KYB bumpstop height?

The rear is were the problem comes in. Here's what they look like:

They go the other way around, and are held on by resting on a perch on the shock piston. This means that if they're cut they'll just fall down. Is this how the KYB's go on? I do have Ben's rear mounts, so would I even need shortened bumpstops? I could also cut the bottom coil off and flip them over like the fronts. this would probably give a bit less than 3/4". Can anyone think of a reason not to do this?

When I was running OEM boots, I cut the top inch off the bumstop and then zip tied the boot part to the strut body to hold the whole thing up.

How about the KYB's? How are they held on? Your PM box was full, but that's basically all it said.

I didn't even think of the rubber holding the bolts in place, but that makes perfect sense...12-15ft-lbs isn't even that tight.

The KYBs fit very snug on the strut piston, they wont fall down. They also include zip ties to secure the bottom to the strut body.

Ok. Maybe I'll just get some of those for the rear. You're on KYB's right? Do you think the same will hold true for illumina's?

What did you do with the front?

Anybody want some new rear OEM dustboots?
