shocks / struts

If i got the tein S springs which is like a 2 inch drop i believe...how long can i just ride on the springs before the shocks, struts go out. I got a 97' with 115K miles. I heard it was a year b4 i would have to replace the shocks / struts but i want to make sure

you cant adjust the springs, best bet would be to get adjustable shocks

KYB AGX or the Tokio

One org member has S-Tech and GR-2, been on the for a year, riding fine.

Heard good things about AGX and S-Techs.

Think of it this way. You're going to have to pay for the installation twice. Better to do it all at once.

it all depends on a few things
1) the current state of your oem shocks and struts.
2)the type of driving you intend to do.
3)the state of the roads where you live.

Be prepared for a really choppy ride because in effect you are taking 2" of shock travel away from your shocks and struts.
Personally, why spend the money to install springs when you know in a year or so you are just gonna have to spend more money to remove and re-install them with new shocks and struts?
Save up the extra, get a good set of shocks and struts and put all the stuff in at the same time.
Regards.

It's not a set time. It depends on weather, how you drive, the road conditions, weight in the car. Some people last a long time lowered on stock struts some don't.

its not recommended. Some have blown their struts in few days few weeks some managed to get away with it till they got their new struts.

I personally wouldnt take that risk, plus I wouldnt want to pay for install twice, and alignment twice, make it a one time deal.

If you're installing it yourself just do it. Mine lasted over a year on stock SE struts with similar miles, I have since added Illumina's (love them) the stocks are still okay, but I used Eibach springs which don't have a huge drop so they're not as demanding on the struts. You're only extra costs (doing it yourself) is alignment twice, but if you're paying to do the install what you pay for labour will cost almost as much as the new shocks and struts so take the good advice from others and wait.

With 115K miles you stock struts are most likely blown already but you just don't notice it. Struts get weak over time and your not going to get in your car one day and be like "I think I just blew a strut". Just about any car with 115K mile struts could use replacements.

I would say that if you put on the springs with the stock struts your probably going to think the ride is decent and your struts are fine since you have most likely been riding on weak ones for a while anyhow. I bet you don't notice what your missing until you get yourself a set of illuminas
