Busted out my drivers side red/clear tail light (96 I30 owners can clear their tails like 97-99 Max's). Backed into a new Yukon.



When I originally cleared the tails a few years back I made a clear plastic insert in place of the orange reflector, like we all did. This time I put it back together w/o anything in place of the orange reflector. I can make up my mind which looks better. Don't mind the dirty car...I cleaned up the area around the tail lights so you could actually see the difference.

the left is cleaner, reminds me of diamond cut clears vs. the right side (old clears)

 

I would say that it would look great if you took the clear part out of the reverse lights to match the left blinker but you would need a BIG oven to fit that piece inside.

my vote is for the left one, but i dont accept the huge lie that you backed into a Yukon, lol ! lets face it mike, you have so much torque, with some spirited driving you jerked and cracked your rear tail light by sheer force !

I like the clearer left as well, but I think the right matches better with the reverse lights. It's kinda like the clear corners I got from Southwest Auto works... had one housing that didn't match the others. Only took over a month for them to get it straightened out.

I'd say lefty too, it looks more like it should be stock than the one on the right, it also looks a lot smoother.

damn I dont have the patience to do that myself, breaking the tail lenses and custom making a lense to fit back onto the housing...

 

Left one looks good, but isn't your blinker light quality less now? Seems like without a reflector of some sort in the lense all you'd see is a small yellow bulb illuminated when you're blinker is on.

Go with the crystal clear look. Then you can hit the bulb with a single, light coat of silver spray paint to get rid of the egg yolk look.

did u see the lights blinking on a 98 or 99 I30 !?! they are so bright and they look like what mike has on the driver's side ... more transparent without anything obstructing means more light ... anyhow the reflector is always there behind the bulb ... only the plastic thing attached to the lens is not there on the left side

yeah i like the left.... but one good point was made - the passenger side may actually look better when lit... just my .02

 

Yes, the blinker light out put is fine and maybe even a bit better. having the lens in place does not do anything for the brightness or reflection of the light.

 

The left side reminds me of the old version of the clear bumper lenses before DC came around.
