So tonight my girlfriend was driving the car while I was stuffed in the trunk trying to seek and destroy this chriping sound that has been with us for as long as I can remember. She is driving around over every pothole, probably killing my suspension while I have my ear pressed against the rear of the car. I peel away the lining of the trunk and discover that the passenger side strut is chirping b/c its damaged-Im assuming that it is damaged and there should not be any play in there- right?!? well, i could feel the center pole thingy move around in there. Should there be any play in there? I cant get to the other side to do a comparison b/c of my amp. What should I do? Bring it back to the dealer and have them do warranty work? I have had this noise for as long as I remember. Would the car be smoother after this is corrected? Sorry for the novel.

 

I had the same noise but now I got new suspension. I totally forgot to listen for it.

 

Dude... lol first off I wanna say most likely it wasn't damaged it was just loose some how, unless you replaced your stock suspension and the person that did the job didn't tighten the nut that goes onto the rod of the strut/shock over the strut mount. But now most likely it is damaged for the fact that the nut that is on the rod is probably stripped from all the pot holes you hit, for every time you hit a pothole or a bump in the road the rod wasn't lose and was trying to fall out of the mount but the loose nut that's on the rod is preventing it. You might have to have a professional take the nut off, and get a new strut/shock since the rod is damaged.

 

If you had said chirping from the rear suspension, I could have nailed it for you. The rubber bushings on the strut shaft can deteriorate and allow the shaft to rub on the mount. That's where the chirping comes from.

You need the rubber parts, NOT the mount.

Unless you were going to order a set from me. Then you definitely need to replace the mounts too

 

Would it be bad to install your mounts onto a stock suspension?

 

No, the improvements would still be there. They just might be a bit more subtle.

 

I think this has been with my max since i bought it- Do you think I would notice an improvent in the handling dept. with this taken care of?

 

Just fixing the broken rubber, probably not. But the silence will be good.

 

Hmm. Ow well- The noise being gone would still make my day.
