Help Please! Check engine light doesn't turn on?

so i've been having this problem on my 99 auto max. When im at a stop, and on the brake the car starts to shake a little and the RPM moves a little up and down, consistent with the shaking of the car. I took it to a mechanic who said that he couldn't find out what's wrong because my check engine light does not come on when i go to start the car. He could not get any information from the computer due to some kind of electrical problem. I don't know what to do and if my car will be ok...any thoughts or suggestions?

the buld is blown for the cel and can easily be replaced, I dont understand how he couldnt hook up an OBD-II scanner and check that way.

if you have electrical problem to where you can read from the ecu, I'm sure you car would have a lot more problem if it even would run.

the shaking is probably a mis-fire, sadly 99s are very suseptable to this. I'd take the car to advanced auto or something like that and get a scan for free.

Actually It's Autozone. Advanced Auto doesn't do it.

they did it when I went there before. Maybe it depends on the area, or whos working. they just handed me the scan tool and said come back after you scan so I can print out the results.

ok might wanna consider cleaning you IAC (Idle air controller) that would explain the change in rpm while at idle, as for the vibration that MIGHT go with it, never had that part of problem b4
