Longevity of VQ and Auto trans?

I'm looking at a 99 Maxima with 122,000 miles. Assuming the previous owner took decent care of it, and considering I'm **** when it comes car maintenance (**** in a good way), can I easily get 160,000+ miles out of the engine and automatic transmission? I will be doing all the regular maintenance and probably adding a tranny cooler even though it's probably not needed.

You sure you want auto? They're much slower than 5-speeds. I drove one recently and I am so glad I looked long enough to find a mint 5-speed.

Can't speed for the auto trans (although I hear it lasts a looooong time), but the VQ is one of the best engines ever. I heard of a 4th gen with 330k miles and a few in the 200k mile range. Hell, the fastest bolt on 4th gens had 166k mile on it.

Mine has 116k and is in great shape.

160,000+ easily. Try more like 200,000. Mine has 143,000 now and shows no signs of giving up any time soon.

Yeah, going for an Auto due to it being a daily driver. I have another car if I want to go fast

I got my 99GXE in April of 2002 with 132,000 miles on it. It now has 170,000, with the original Auto trany. No trany work done to the car other than changing the fluids. No major Engine work either. Coil packs, knock sensor and tune ups.

I have 173k on my I30... the only problem I have noticed lately is hard shift on 1st to 2nd gear. Dunno what to do at this point.

all maintainence done on car was the usual: oil, alt, o2 sensor, knock sensor, starter, plugs.
