Does anybody ever get a zap or shock when exiting the car. I noticed this happens alot in colder days . When I get out of my car and touch the door I get zapped. Is this normal? How can this be stopped?

I have the same experience. It is a consequence of a change in the formulation of tire rubber compounds in an effort to reduce rolling friction. An unwanted side effect is that these new rubber compounds are less conductive. Your car has become a rolling VandeGraff generator (static electricity generator).

One way to deal with this static charge problem is to attach a ground strap to the undercarriage of your car. I went to several auto parts stores and asked for this item. In every case the counterman said "Oh yeah, we used to sell a lot of those but we don't carry them any more." I'm still looking...

Here's one solution... it requires cultivating a new habit. When you park ...
1) Open the door.
2) Swing your feet out and put them on the ground.
3) Exit the car.
