I need help wit rear struts

I changed my springs maybe about a month ago. And now i am trying to take them back off to put different one on. On my last install i think i tightened the top strut mount way to tight. I have the strut off and i cannot get the mount on the top loose for anything. All it does it spin. How can i get theis black mount off the struts?

A wrench for the nut on top and a wrench for the bolt on top is what you'll need. Put the wrench on the nut and turn until the handle pushes against the wheel well. Now use the other wrench to loosen it up. Slowly but surely it should loosen it up. Its easier to do if you climb into the trunk.

Get vice grips and put some tape on the metal part . Use a wrench for the nut and the vice grips for the thread sticking out above the nut. Turn the wrench and hold the grips. That's how I did it.

are you saying you stripped the threads. get a cut off wheel or a dremel, and saw that off. be careful not to damage....anything except for the nut.

Wow, the nut is only supposed to be torqued to 15ft/lbs. Looks like someone overdid it. What I told you should've worked, sorry I couldn't be more help.

PB Blaster and or wd-40

that tools are you using to get the strut bolts off?

my suggestion (Deezy Spcial)

go to auto zone get a 18mm socket (I belive thats the size for that particular bolt)
get the 2 foot break bar they have, use that **** in conjuction with some WD-40 or PB Blaster.

spray let sit for 25 mins, use break bar, break that sommma b!tch free, return tools after completion.

let me know if that doesnt work

It's not 18mm, I can assure you. There isn't a single bolt on the max that is 18mm, I haven't seen one at least. ^You haven't read a single thing have you? Do you even know what the rear top mount bolt looks like or how it comes off? You need something to be holding the piston while you loosen the nut otherwise it will just spin all day. Use some penetrant and I'm sure the vice grips/wrench is your only option. You only have to break it loose, after that it's cake. You could try a torch or something but you'd probably melt the bushing. Good luck.

Do you have a local mechanic that you are friendly with at all? You could probably have a friend run you over to the mechanic's shop quick. Bring the rear strut assembly with you and it'll only take them a few seconds (Air tools and vise?). I had this problem with my wife's Sentra. They popped it off in no time. They didn't charge me anything, but I did bring the car back for an alignment a few days later. Actually, I get all my alignments done there. Good luck.

i had this happen with my front struts, i had to end up rethreading the piston. but i got it off with an impact and holding the piston through the springs, not the best way but it worked, the backs i dont know if you can fit your hand inthere to hold the piston. also are you trying to turn the center nut while the car is off the ground or on the ground? i learned that if the car is still on the ground it makes the bolt easier to turn if it got overtorqued thanks to the extra friction.

well when i try the strut is cmpletely off the car. I know you are suppose to break it loose before it comes off in whch i do.....or try to. I will take them to a shop and try to get them un-done there.

I tightened vice grips around the black rubber bushing. It put tons of pressure on the strut piston and the nut came off easily.
