Does the tune-up really REQUIRE the NGK's? It seems to me to be a bit rediculous to pay $12 per spark plug...

No. Some Maxima owners report dissatisfaction with plugs of other brands, but I've had good results with Bosch platinums.

Think about it, there's no timing to set and the NGK's don't have to changed but every 60k unlike the conventional spark plug which wears out quicky. Plus you get a better spark, and i'm quite sure Nissan knew what they were doing when they put the NGK's in there to begin with. I say stick with the NGK's.

i went with the bosch platnum +4 plugs and my car ran like crap!! I pulled them out and bought the NGK's I mean you only do this like every 60k or maybe twice if you keep the car till it dies. Nissan reccomends the NGK as a direct replacement. The NGK worked fine, i sugest the NGK its worth the $$ even if they are $15 a plug..... make sure to use anti seize on them (be shure it doesnt have mettalic particles in it) good luck

Every anti-seize product I've ever seen had metallic particles in it. If you know of one which does not use metallic particles, please post the brand name and description here.

Why no metalic particles? The spark plug threads provide an electrical ground path for the current. How could metalic particles hurt? I've used Permatex Anti-sieze lubricant with metalic particles for years with no problems, as have thousands of other mechanics and do-it-yourselfers.
