That's kind of alot of power. I wouldn't use the ciq lighter.

Are you sure you just plug it into a power source? It seems like with that much power it would have to work like an amp with power coming straight off the battery (probably with some pretty thick wire) and a remote turn on lead to the switched source. If not then maybe do it with a relay.

run a wire from the battery and put a relay on the cig lighter so it acts as a remote.

Power Inverters have a turn on lead that is totally seperate from the 12V main source. The cig. lighter should be fine for the turn on lead, you'll need to run a large wire tap right from the battery to effectively run a 400W inverter.

my inverter just has a on and off switch located on the unit, so i think using a relay as a remote would make the most sense.

or you can pull the on off switch and remote mount it. you just lengthen both wires and mount the switch where you want it. do that with the relay and you have the safety of it cutting off with the ignition or off while driving ie only on when you want it.

there is no way your going to draw 400w off a 12 guage wire your trying to tap from. just run a cable from your battery.

Thats what i was planning on doing, as well as using a relay.

the other black wire connected to the 10amp meter fuse is my radar detector, which is also hardwired through the a-pillar to the top left of the windshield (hidden behind factory window's tint).

anywayZ i just wanna let u guys know that this setup is safe. and it is not necessary to hardwire 175watt (or less) power inverter from the battery.

although many people said it's NOT safe to get power from the fuse panel, but i have this setup for almost 1 year and nothing has gone wrong. no fire nor bad quality video or whatsoever.

so if u want to do it the hard way, listen to other people. i'm just here to share my own custom wiring and personal experience...
