5 speed or car switch?

5 speed or car switch?

5 speed conversion is a fairly big topic, and no im not gonna ask how u do it, I already know how. but I need yalls opinion on this...is it worth the money? seriously, cause I love my maxima...but if it isnt worth the money then im switching to either a 240sx fastback or a '93ish mitsu 3000GT. So just tell me if yall #1) think its worth it...#2) how much do u think it will cost.

1) Everyone who have done converting says it's worth it. and I also think it's worth it even though I haven't done it yet(soon I will be).
get it converted!

2) well the price depends on where you get the parts and if you're going to do the labor yourself or leave it to the shop. for parts alone it will cost around $1000 to $2500. and the labor, I heard it's about $500+.

so the bottom line is if you're not gonna get 240sx SR swapped, or low mileage 3000gt VR4, I'd get the max converted to 5spd.

Im kinda intiminated by this idea.. I'm pretty good with simple things and basic car upgrades.. but i dont think I can handle changing the transmission. Is it really as hard as it sounds? Or do all you have to do is follow the instructions closly

i di it with minimal help. 90% of the work done by me its not hard as long as you have a good mechanical mind and paitence. ive done 2 already so im used to it. the hardest part is the pedals.

240's are great little cars but kinda slow imo, 155hp is enough and the KA24DE is torqey, but it's not as smooth as the VQ. handling wise they're lots of fun, very tossable cars, but get it if you're going SR20DET or KA24DET. If you need room for people the Max is the No1 choice obviously. I've had both a 240SX and a Maxima, both 5-spd, and I love them both in different ways, I love the VQ but you can't beat the RWD and handling of the 240. I drove my buddy's 3000GT and can't say i was impressed, it had the 222hp engine but it felt like driving a freakin boat, if you get a VR4 its a different story though. I love nimble cars, hands down 240SX wins this one for me...

i dont think its worth it. im planing on selling my car for a '95 240sx this summer. yes they are slow stock, but fun. and with some money they can be very fast. s14s own.

we charge for a auto to 5 speed swap $1500-$1700 including parts and labor.

Right, a NA 3000GT will be slower than your Maxima and the twin turbo is a pretty expensive prospect. They are very heavy cars. An manual conversion seems pretty involved. I would want a very mechanically inclined friend or a really good shop if I were you.

Why is it a waste of money. If you enjoy your car and would like to gain the most out of it then its never a waste.
If you consider altering your car a waste you should definately stay stock.
First thing to remember is
You will never get back what you put into the vehicle money wise.
Thats something you should relize before modding your vehicle.

im with this 100% i have owned 3 maximas 2 5spds one auto. i switched my 98 not even a year after having it. and have never been happier.

Those 3000GT's are heavy as hell, and dogs unless they are the VR4. S14's are a great chassis but engine wise you know what you have to do. Either way your cheapest route is going to probably doing the 5 speed conversion. And you'll still have back seats to throw your friends in.

Just so you know, tinkering and getting a 5 speed wont exactly depreciate its value, but who the heck is gonna buy an S14 with over $15k in mods + the price of the car itself. Its how much you love your car that matters.
