Weird sounding on start up

Ok

I hadnt run my car for 2 days and I went out there to start it up and it started up but it took longer than usual and sounded as almost as ifit was not going to start up.

Like I turned the key and it took longer thatn usuall to start and then after it was started it started like "prgh" sounds trying to stay started up.

Also when I start my car there is a squeak sound...

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated

Could be belts and maybe a dying battery, if you normally drive everyday you wouldnt notice the battery till it sat for 24-48 hours...

ok well if you drive it for awhile so you know the battery has a good charge, does it start normally afterwards?

I have the same problem sorta. My car takes a while to start some times, but if I was just driving, it will startup instantly with no problems. If its in the morning, or it has been sitting for half a day it will take a while to start again.

Any ideas?

First make sure you have at leatst a 1/4th tank of gas that will do it. Sometimes my car is weird starting but only once a month or so. They are getting older u know! My belts also make a loud noise on startup usually but nothing after that.

Ignition switch and/or starter going bad. Every now and the, it takes just a second longer than usual to start the car when I turn the ignition. Then there's a grinding noise when the car starts. The grinding happens more often then the delayed starting. It's been like that for about a year now. Someone's got a great write-up on how the fix that grinding noise in the starter.

ok

Hello,

Yes after i drive for a while and go to start it back up it starts fine... Its only when its been sitting there for a while.

How often do you replace your starter? Whats the approx. cost and are you all pretty sure thats what is causing the grinding starts? Like I said its only when its been sitting there.

I feel my ignition switch is kind of bad because sometimes when I go to turn my car on it wont start up and I have to push the brake in because it never went out of gear... that is my ignition switch correct? How much is that approx to fix?

And what about the battery... it starts fine after its been drivin.

It's in the How to Forum:

How to Re-Grease Starter http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/516

I'd try that before buying a new starter. For a remanufactured part, the Bosch starters are around $150; the Denso's are much more expensive.

Ignition switches are around $30.

I think you can go to Autozone to get a free Battery check. I usually just drive on mine until it dies. Luckily, it's only happened once and I was at home.

I was having the same problem about a month ago. Changed the battery and it wasnt that. Changed the starter and thats what it was. Most probably its your starter.
