Looks or Go??

Sup Orgers, Just wanted some input on a decision I want to make..
I was thinking about selling my max but decided that it wouldn't be worth it.
So, I'm gonna keep her until she drops... or at least another 3 years or so.

My max has wasn't the greatest when I got her.
It's pebble beige which isn't all that cool... I think...
It's a 96 so she has an ugly butt with no spoiler and a ugly face with After Markets fogs that are broke.
Stock steelies...
And worst of all, she's an auto....

Kinda tragic.

On the Upside, she's got a few mods.
Intake, Y-Pipe, Custom Catback, OBX Exhaust.
She's lowered, tinted, shaved, neoned (inside), indigloed, leathered, and pumps out about 1200 watts of some what pleasant sound.

But still, I'm not really diggin my car lately... I dunno why...

So, what's a guy gonna do...
I've decided that instead of selling, I'll dump about 3 maybe G's in her.

Whew~ That was long but I guess I wanted to share it someone..

ANYWAY...

Should I...
(A) Convert Front and Rear(w/spoiler) to 97-99 and get the stillen kit plus rims

or

(B) Convert to 5spd (w/ lsd, lightened fly, new clutch, short shifter) and get some sort of VI plus ecu.

What would you do?

i would deff. go with go haha
yeah when i started with my car i thought cars had to have the drop and body kit blahblah(didn't really have a concept of sleeper) and that exactly what i did with my car. Dont get me wrong i all so have all the bolt on to. so its not to bad. BUT if i could go all the way back to beginning I would say f*ck all the cosmetic things and get the SC.
Your car can have all the show it wants but with no go what kind of respect are u gonna have. of course on the other side of things its cool to see a really fast car, but if it looks like crap what good is that?
Oh and for ur question i would go with (B)

B but then again the 97-99 style is pretty hot.

I spent a lotta time and money on looks for my car and not as much on power so if you wanna even it out then maybe A.

However it is awesome if your car doesn't LOOK like a fast car. You can amaze people and make them feel like **** when you blow past them in your grocery getter...

Honestly, if my views were the same as your's that you have on your car, I think it would be foolish to drop 3 G's in it. Just save your money until the car goes and get suttin you really like and fully love and are into 100%.

I agree with the above statements about how if you don't like your car, don't mod it, etc. But since you have most of the bolt on's down, I'd say go for looks. HOWEVER, I would not suggest doing the front and rear end conversion -- like your car the way it is; I actually prefer the way 95-96's are, and I think that this .org has turned many good 95-96'ers into conversion junkies when they had a perfectly good front and rear end. Here's what I think you should do
OEM spoiler
Take off broken fogs, and/or replace with OEM fogs
Spend the time reconditioning your paint job (i.e. full detail -- clay bar, polish, wax) it will make you really appreciate your work and what you got.
Also, get some newer maxima wheels (16" 5 spokes, or the newer 17's), or some good quality aftermarket 17's
Forget the stillen kit
And if you're serious about the 5 spd. conversion, you'd have money to spend on it.
That's my list, the best of both your choices

Mix of both. Just fix the outside, maybe get some cheap 16,17"s and go for the 5spd conv.

i had the same dilema less than a year ago. I ended up using the money for a down payment on a C5 corvette. I still drive my I30 more than i do the Vette and i actually just recently lowered the I30. I would recommend saving your money.

well i would go performance but either would do. once you put on a body kit your max will be transformed into coolius maximus ! if you do some performance mods the feel of the car will change enhancing the overall driving experience. certainly a 5 speed swap would change the experience dramtically. good luck and enjoy !

I would go with red clears in the back with spoiler, front conversion to 97-99 with fogs. Maybe put a stillen lip in front. Get some decent wheels, fix all the dents or scratches and after that put the rest in "B"

Replace it by a 95-95 5-speed that's either white, black, or dark green.

Sorry to hijack the thread for a sec, but I was thinking about doing a 5sp conversion, especially since I don't really have the option of selling it or trading it in. About how much would the conversion cost?

Thanks for all your input guys.
Keep it comming... I really like hearing your personal option (c)...

As for cost of 5sp conv... some say less than 1G, some say about 2... Depends on who's doing it I guess.

well personally...it sounds more like your not pleased with the LOOKS of your car...YOU CAN NEVER GO WRONG WITH POWER!!! but...u sound dissapointed with the way it looks not he way it runs soooo im gonna have to say ***A*** only because of the way u make it sound when u talk about ur car.

Plus my friend said the 5 speed conv. wasnt reliable....but I dunno if I believe him, then again he drives a Mitshubishi 3000GT...WHAT DOES HE KNOW!!! (just kidding alex )

If you really have to spend the money then go with 5sp conversion and maybe look into a used sc or turbo.

with an automatic I think my hand would be forced to make it "pretty"...not that there is anything wrong with that. Id ditch the neons, clean the interior up, forget the corny indiglos and get some nice touring style wheels. (you can always pull them and takem with ya when you get another max), Have you seen the 6" TV install where the bose headunit sits? Its a interesting clean lookin mod. Id make her a luxury/touring hookup I wouldnt be feeling making her fast on a auto because it looks like the previous owner already tried. I would also replace the KS...it will help with some of the heat soak/power loss. There you go some detail time....some unricey modes...some rims you can take with you.. a little tuneup...and run her till she dead!

EDIT: the 97-99 conversion really can only be seen by an orger or someone with a keen eye ...there are some nice 96 maximas out there!
