Blue Led Window Switches, Just Some ?'s About The Rears

i'm thinking about doin the you know blue led conversion llike many others.
i noticed that the maximas below 97s don't have the little squarish looking LED for the rear switches. could i possible just buy the 96 switches and hook em up to a 97?

also for the driverside, i heard there has been some accidents due to leavin the led prongs too long. other than that its pretty simple right?

heres some how to pics of a 96 that is.

I bet you could change the 97 switches with a 96. It was easy to do my 96 rear switches. Just put the new ones in just like the factory ones.

The driver's switches were the hardest of them all. Just cut the contacts on the other side short and you won't have problems. The hard part is soldering them straight so you dont get "hot spots".

are you saying the LEDs on the 97+ switches are the small flat square LEDs? you can buy thoes too, oyu just use some de-solder ot get the current ones off then solder on the ewn ones.

no believe me, there really really small, i don't think anybody sells them. think of it this way, those things are smaller than a half the size of a 3mm led.

ok. can you tell me if they are really small and flat? got any pictures? i know i have seen the small flat LEDs for sale before, but cant remember where. im sure you can also just solder some 3mm leds to the connectors. if you got some nice close up pics i could help more.

So you are saying the 97+ switches have small LED squares? I bet you could just desolder those and solder regular LEDs in there. Maybe the previous owner modified them a little bit. Try it and let everyone know how it's done.

that site shows you how to change the square leds to regular ones. but im pretty sure if you wanted you could just go to a junkyard and pick up some 95 or 96 rear boards and use those. also make sure when you do it that you dont lose the black plastic pusher things in the switch that the switch needs to work. especially on the driver side cause there are 12 of them i think and if you turn the board over and dont realize what your doing they will all fall out and your stuck searching for a little black piece of plastic. when i did mine this weekend i didnt realize they fall out so easily and i lost 1 of these little biotches and now i hafta go to a junkyard just to get one little piece of plastic. grrrrr

Yes, those little, black, plastic things do fall out if you don't know what your doing. I thought I lost one, but noticed the driver's window only has 3 out of the 4 functions. It doesn't have a AUTO UP, so it only needs 3 plastic pieces.

FYI, the 96 rear harness does not fit the 97.

yeh i checked out the how to site on cardomain. you have to remove the led and then connect the new led prongs in one of the 2 of 4 holes. second thought, doesn't seem that hard beside tryin to place the led

Just remove the tiny LED and solder on a regular LED like pictured below. The longer lead in the picture is the positive LED, the negative lead goes to the stock resistor. I know that sounds contradictory but that's how it will work.
