Polyurethene Gasket for Strut Housings

I have removed my rear strut assembly and am about to mount my new Tokiko/H&Rs. (the front is next)
Is the poly gasket that sits between the strut mount and the wheel well necessary? The stock one was completely wasted. Could I use another gasket material or should I go by the dealer and get an exact match OR just don't worry about it?

Go to the hardware store or your local auto parts store and buy a sheet of headder gasket material for about 5 bucks. Trace out a pattern using something round and make new ones. The gasket paper you get at most auto parts stores is thicker and does a better job isolating the suspension from the chassis. They also help keep moisture from getting inside your trunk as well.
