Check Engine Light not working

I recently bought a maxima and now I've noticed that the CEL doesn't come on at any time. This doesn't sound like a big problem but I know it is supposed to be on when you first start your car so that you know it's working. I don't think I'll pass emissions because of this because I believe they check it to see if it's working properly. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I should do? I'm checking the codes tonight to see if I can get it to flash, but if not I'm kind of concerned.

Bulb burned out?

Bulb removed by devious dealer or private seller to conceal problems?

check the bulb. Go through the stickies to find instructions on removing the cluster.

You can have my SES light. Mine is always on, its a real waist of electricity.

Ya some less than honest sellers will remove the bulb. Thats why when you buy a car you should always make sure that it comes on when you start the car.

But then again it could just be a burned out bulb. The easiest way is to go to autozone and have them connect the computer to your car and see if they pull any codes. Or you can open up the cluster and check the bulb
